2nd vet visit-mookiees new weight-Questions

so mookiee is 3 months and 5 days old, she went to vet on friday and weights.....6lbs 8oz...Chat Icon shes very healthy, i just cant believe how big she is getting....oh i got a price quote to get her fixed, its approx $600 to fix her and she stays overnight, give her a microchip, and they said sometimes the baby teeth dont fall out so they would pull them, OR option #2-fixing her and overnight stay for approx $400...now questions:
1-is that a lot of money, seems like a lot to me, but is in manhattan
2-is microchipping good/necessary?
3-has anyone heard/had their dogs teeth pulled?
4-which option would u choose?

they said she should be fixed from 5-7 months old....im already worrying, but know it needs to be done...any feedback is appreciated

1) Thats a lot of money
Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
I got Rocky neutered at 6 months..At his vet, (dr. Blauvelt in Long Island) I believe neutering was around 200Chat Icon Chat Icon Spaying is more complicated so it was a little more, 230.

My vet took the friends of animals organization certificate so it cost me only $54. Its gone up to 64
Spaying is $90....
Ask your vet if he takes it!!!
FRIENDS OF ANIMALS WEBSITE
Many vets also take another thing called muffins something, but i cant think of the name.

2) I dont know if its good.I still need to ask the vet and people here if its humane. But if it is, then yes I should have had it done then. My vet only charges $40 for it.

3)Rocky had 2 teeth extracted when he was "under". It was $15 for each tooth.

IMHO, I think thats a lot of money...There are many reputable breeders in the city for a lot less...

Re: 2nd vet visit-mookiees new weight-Questions

hmmm....

I think that the price is somewhat normal, but a little on the high side as well.

Microchipping is a personal decision. It doesnt hurt the dog at all and I would suggest it, but depends on if you plan to take her out or not. If she will always be inside, might not be needed and it can be done at any time.

As far as the teeth go, I would wait a little longer. Why pull them unless they are SURE that they wont come out?

And I also would wait till about 7 months to get her fixed. Our vet an dthe shelter we got her from dont suggest it till at least 6 months for smaller breeds , I am not taking abby till 7 months.

and wow..what a big puppy!

1- $400 is what I paid to have my pups fixed with the overnight stay.
2- PLEASE microchip, and have her chip # engraved on her tag.
3- yes, many small breeds will need to have baby teeth pulled in order to make room for new ones. Not sure why this issue is being brought up at her age though.....

The age is not necessarily as important as her weight. Please try to make sure your pup is at least 5 lbs, as that is considered the "safe weight" for anesthesia. Also, I am not sure what breed you dogs is, but if it is a breed with a *snub* nose, or shortened sinuses (Pug, Shih-Tzu, Japanese Chin, some spaniels) please make sure your vet uses a Bronchial bypass gas method to anesthetize, and not an injection. (you can FM for more details).
