Re: 3 Dog+ owners....Lolita, MrsMBV....how do you do it?
Hey Shana! We had the pug for about 3 years before we got Loki, and that was a little difficult b/c they didn't get along at first. Loki is aptly named, and was the servant of the Devil when he was a puppy. Once we figured out how to keep them from hating & killing each other, then it was pretty easy. Then I got Pyxie, as I always wanted a Chinese Crested. She is pretty rough to take care of in the sense that she cannot go potty outside, and she takes a lot of care & grooming for her skin & crest. This was a pretty big adjustment as well. Also I had to make sure the boys did not beat up on her b/c she has skin that can scar & the boys at that point played pretty roughly. (I also want to add that it was easier to train them all cuz I was home at that point.)
Once we moved into our house, we ended up with Foxy. We got her b/c my MIL tried to rescue her, but could not keep her. Foxy tried to rip those dogs apart, so she ended up with us. She was a cinch b/c she was already trained. At this point though, we started to notice the huge difference in our dog-food, training, and vet bill- spending. It had, of course tripled, but also the meds, and the visits because of so& so biting this one, etc had increased.
Bruno was rescued & is very little trouble & pretty low maintenance. The only thing with him is he has a very sensitive stomach & needs special food that is $$.
I DO want to say though, that it is very rarely quiet in my house, and I never EVER have an empty bed. Plus I have to vacuum every day & have had to rid myself of anything that was carpeted.
But it is worth it to me & I would never change a thing

I have three, but they are all pint sized...... BUT, i dont have a baby. And i dont have any problem dogs that require alot of attention or disipline. If i remember correctly there were a buttload of posts you made how your puggle was a demon dog. You seemed to really be at your witts end. With a dog that requires so much attention and a baby, i would suggest waiting a few years.

My dogs are not problem dogs.....the puggle was new and from a foster home. We had issues in the apt with him having accidents and then a few when we moved into the house. He has the ocassional accident here and there, mostly out of spite but nothing we don't deal with. Most of the time, he poos in the kitchen because I'm alone putting the baby down and I can't get to the door to let him out. So it's our fault. Can't fault him for that.
The dang dog SLEEPS ALL DAY, even when we are home. He just follows us from room to room to sleep. He is NOT A DEMON DOG. I was having issues with ADOPTING A NEW ANIMAL. He has since turned into a great dog. If he was that bad, I would have given him back to the agency. He sleeps with us, kisses the baby, and is a very loving yet stubborn dog. We love him to death.

nice to see you'd RETURN him if he was a demon dog.... so what if this next one turns out to be one? youll just return him too? isnt the next one supoposed to be adopted from a foster home as well?
also good to see you neglect your poor dog because youre too busy to let him out to go to the bathroom. if you cant even take the two seconds to let out the dogs you have NOW what will you do with a 3rd??
PLEASE DONT GET ANOTHER! you SO dont seem ready for it.
(and not for nothing, im not alone in these thoughts, im just only one telling you this) )

Re: 3 Dog+ owners....Lolita, MrsMBV....how do you do it?
how dare YOU accuse me of NEGLECTING my animals.
I do NOT neglect them.....you don't have a child and therefore don't understand how important timing is when it comes to getting them to go to sleep. She is my priority because she is my child. My dogs are also a priority because they were my babies FIRST. Do you care that when we go away, we have a friend come stay at our house to watch them so they don't get kenneled? Do you care that I make rice JUST for them. Do you care that I leave the radio on for them when we leave? Do you care that I don't mind getting soaking wet in the rain to put the lil guy on a leash to walk him on the grass in the front yard because he's so prissy he won't walk in the mud in the backyard? Or how about waking up in the middle of the night when he has an asthma attack or the rotti throws up and needs to be cuddled.
Is that neglecting them? Or how about staying home from work while the construction guys work on the apt for my grandma because I'm upset that they freak out that there are strangers in their yard.
And despite the issues we had with him and ocassionally have now, is he going anywhere? NO. I cried and cried while PG because I wanted to keep him and wasn't sure what to do about his issues. He's here and we adore him. He's a very loyal and protective dog. And the only way I'd find another home for him is if he went after DD.
So do I neglect my animals?

It sounds to me like you love your dogs very much. And I would not worry about what other people think only you and your DH know what is right for you are your family.

I just have to say that I think thats really uncalled for. One thing that you learn when you are a parent (of a human child) is not to judge other people for what they choose to do and that the most important thing is to do what is right for you in your heart. If posting these nasty comments were what was right in your heart for you to do, so be it. But they were really uncalled for. She was totally not rude to you.
Done.

Okay. My turn.
Shana,
You have two beautiful dogs and a gorgeous baby.btw, please send me some baby dust.
Lolita is a big animal advocate. She just wants your dogs and daughter to be happy with another furbaby. She doesn't think they will and I don't think so either.
I think it is great that you want to adopt another dog. The world needs more people like you.
Here is the kicker.. I don't know you at all.. but I honestly think that having three dogs and a baby is very overwhelming. It is a lot of work. There is going to be a lot of animal jealousy going on.
What you might want to look into is fostering a dog to see if is having three dogs is something your family can handle. If so, go to your local pound and talk to the manager. I guarantee you will be approved to foster a dog.
Good luck.

Shana, you do not have to defend yourself. I know you are a great mommy to Ally and your 2 dogs!
That said, do you really think you are ready to take on the responsibility of another dog? I remember reading recently that things were tight with money and you were stressed... it might not be the best thing right now. Just think about it and I am sure you will make the right decision for you and your family!
