3 or 5 day transfer?? - Thanks!
The hospital just called me. All 5 made it thru the night and look great. They have told me that tomorrow morning they will make the decision whether to transfer tomorrow or go to 5 days, she said she thinks it may go to 5 days, but be ready tomorrow just in case.
Does anyone know the advantages of 5 day transfer versus 3 day? I am all of a dither over here and getting myself into a pickle.
Any advice warmly welcomed!!
Thanks
Cathie

Re: 3 or 5 day transfer??
I am not doing IVF yet, but I think the whole idea is so that they can determine which embryos are the BEST for implantation. If they could last til day 5, I would want those implanted. I *think* it also reduces the possibility of multiples.
Good Luck!!! Keep us Posted!

Re: 3 or 5 day transfer??
different clinics have different theoires. There is some research that 5 day blastocysts have a better implantation/success rate.
I go to NSUH and have asked Dr. Scholl about this a few times. He has told me that he feels that the embryos should have as little manipulation as possible and feels that they do better in a uterus than is a dish. And when there are a small quantity of embryos they do not want to take the risk of keeping them longer. He did say that when someone has several embryos they consider a 5 day transfer since it is not as devestating to the outcome if a few do not survive.
Quite frankly, based on the conversations I have had with him about this I am suprised that he is considering a 5day transfer with 5 embryos. My last cycle I also had 5 and we did a 3day transfer.
Good luck!!!

Re: 3 or 5 day transfer??
you have 5 fertilized now? Is that right?
I had 5 and had a 3 day. Im surprised as well like Pauline that they are thinking of a 5 day.
The Only thing I can think of is in my situation, none of my embryo's were doing all that great and they were afraid they would lose them all.
in your situation, it must mean ALL 5 of them are doing good and they really want to weed out the best ones for transfer.
I was previously under the impression 5 day transfers were the best and was kinda upset when mine wasnt ( Although obviously I am now not truly a believer in that as Im PG on my 3 day transfer)
I honestly think that it means good things for you.
So I will just keep everything crossed and pray for the best outcome.
NO WORRIES I TOLD YOU!!!!!!

My RE said the same thing Rose's RE said. He believes embroys do better in the uterus. However he said when the time comes he will see how our embryos are doing and what step we should take from there (i.e. 3 day or 5 day). Good Luck!

Re: 3 or 5 day transfer??
i had 5 day transfers, because i had pgd done to my embryos. they needed to grow enough to be able to extract one cell per embyro to test them. it wasn't a choice for me and my embryos were definitely manipulated, so who knows?!?!? it didn't work the first time for me, but then the fet did and they were frozen after 5 days. unfortunately, there are so many factors, that can affect things.
whatever they decide, i will be praying for you!
