3-Year-Old Toddler Saves Elderly Man Locked in Hot Car

I different kind of hot car story!

3 yr old saves elderly man locked in hot car

With the rash of stories this summer about children forgotten and left to die in hot cars, it's heartwarming to hear a story that didn't have a tragic ending.

That's what happened last weekend when a three-year-old boy happened upon an elderly man locked in a hot car in Knoxville, Tennessee, according to Local8Now.com. The man, Bob King, became locked in his car in the parking lot of his church Saturday afternoon, when temperatures outside were soaring into the 90s.

Keith William, the 3-year-old boy, was walking past the car when he noticed King, who had been locked in the car for about five minutes.

"I hollered at him and he just looked at me kind of funny and I said, 'Yeah, I'm locked in here.'" King told Knoxville's WVLT.

William immediately went back inside the church to alert his pastor, Jack Greene, to King's situation. "He kept pulling at my hand and I eventually turned around and looked at him and said, what's going on, and he said, 'locked, locked!'"

Greene opened the car door and King was able to get out to safety.

"I'm very thankful," King said in an interview with WVLT. "I don't know how long it had been, I'd say it probably be another 20 minutes sitting in there if he hadn't notified somebody."

I'm sorry I can't help but laugh. How does an adult get locked inside their car when the door was clearly unlocked based on how they got him out? And the idea that he was "rescued" by a three yr old makes me think this is a joke!

This can't be real.

Well, I know someone elderly who has nerve damage in their hands and is unable to open jars, car locks etc, but is still able to drive. So I think it is possible the man was really stuck inside his car. And who knows why the boy was alone outside, but we are talking Tennessee, so things may be different down there? I'm glad everyone is ok.

Chat Icon There is a video attached. The elderly man said there was a problem with the switch, but if you listen to the woman beforehand it sounds like the problem is him laying his arm on the switch and locking it without realizing.

The video provides more context. It's a cute story.

He was probably playing on the grass with kids or something. You can see there appears to be some sort of grassy knoll near where the car was.

In any case, good for him!

ITA. OK, the adult has difficulty getting out of the car. I can understand that. It doesn't take much dexterity to lean on the horn, though. That would get attention a lot faster than having a 3yo wandering around a parking lot.
