3 yr old covered in mosquito bites
and she scratches them until they bleed and scab. I know we're not supposed to use bug spray on them (deet) but is there something else you can recommend? And is there an anti itch product I can use after? or is there something you all use to prevent scars b/c she's covered in scabs all the time now. Thanks!

Re: 3 yr old covered in mosquito bites
We have to use Deet bug sprays because Ava has such a bad reaction to bug bites. Even with Deet on, she's a magnet for bugs. When she does get bit, we immediately put extra strength cortisone cream on her, then a few hours later, Neosporin. It's awful and we have to keep her inside this time of year because of the bad reactions she gets. Her entire arm or leg will swell with one bite.

Re: 3 yr old covered in mosquito bites
I wasn't using anything in the beginning of the summer - one night DS got covered in bites on both of his legs. They were so bad he was scratching like crazy. Since they were down on the bottom of his legs they were also near the dirt etc. Well, they ended up getting infected and I felt so bad for him! So keep an eye on them and if they seem like they are scabbing or bothering her alot i might take her to the ped
After that we start using the California Baby bug spray - I bought it at Whole Foods. It is all natural and works by the scent repelling the bugs. I was skeptical but, it has worked REALLY well for us!

Re: 3 yr old covered in mosquito bites
We use Natrapel. It is DEET free. I got it at BRU. It seems to work well. I am a mosquito magnet - big time and I stay pretty bite free when I use it.
If I can catch a bite right away I use after-bite on it. It tends to reduce the severity of the bite.
Bites on me get VERY inflamed and itchy. I use an aveeno anti itch/calamine lotion, take benedryl when it's bad and wear clothing over bites. Sometimes I scratch in my sleep and it can get bad. I feel for these kids, I know how uncontrollable scratching can be even as an adult and you know you shouldn't scratch.
I've had prescription strength anti itch cream prescribed but nothing truly help me until the bite heals.
Aveeno Oatmeal bath may help alleviate before bedtime.

Re: 3 yr old covered in mosquito bites
We've used afterbite that reduces the itch & swelling a little. My dd has such bad reactions, I don't even bring her out at dusk.
Hydrocortizone cream also helps but with the amount swelling, we had to do antibiotics too.
Poor E!
