Analise Paige's Birth Story!
My little girl is now almost a week old! I can’t believe it! She is wonderful and we are enjoying her so much. Today she returned to her birth weight, which is great! So I am proud to announce the birth of my daughter:
Analise Paige Born 6/20/08 at 10:32pm 6lbs. 0oz. 19"
I went to Winthrop for a scheduled induction on 6/19 in the late afternoon. After getting all set up and going through the intake, they started Cervadil at 8pm. I was about 2cm dilated and 30-40% effaced at that time. When the Cervadil was started I began contracting some but didn’t realize how much. After about 45 minutes a team of 5 people rushed in and started doing all sorts of things to me…a shot, turning me, taking out the Cervadil, etc. Turns out, I was having titanic contractions lasting over 3 mintues each, I had dilated another cm within that time, and the baby’s heartrate was decelerating badly. They spoke to my OB and decided to let me wait until the morning for Pitocin.
Overnight, I had more contractions, but they were normal in duration but not regular. I started the Pitocin at 8am and it began doing its job. The Lamaze breathing helped me through some of the rough spots. By noon, I was about 5-6cm dilated and 50% effaced. I went to go to the bathroom and my water broke all over the place! The contractions became much stronger then but I stuck with it for a while longer. I wanted to know what they felt like, though I planned on an Epidural.
After about 2 hours of contracting I was 6cm and decided to get the Epidural. The contractions were way stronger after my water broke and the breathing really helped then! When I didn’t do the breathing I felt a big difference, but not enough to not get the Epidural. I was so afraid of getting it but when the time came, I did fine. It sure is a strange feeling though. The contractions continued to become stronger and became more regular, though all I felt was the tightening and not the cramping. I did progress more slowly then.
As the night moved on I did dilate and efface more. I was 100% effaced and just continuing to dilate past 9cm at around 8:30pm. Even with the Epidural I was getting strong contractions and cramping then. I had a meltdown from the pain around9:30pm, at which point I had DH get the OB to do another internal. When he did I was 10cm and 100% effaced so I got to start pushing, which made it all feel better. I pushed for about an hour and needed a small episiotomy. I’m so glad I didn’t need a c-section! Analise was born at 10:32pm and it was such an amazing experience to find out her gender then. DH and I were overjoyed beyond tears! She has been healthy and happy (considering they had me going for monitoring to watch her growth for weeks)!
Everyone at Winthrop was wonderful and I loved my OB. There were so many babies born that day that the maternity section of the post partum floor was full. They had about 8 of us down the hall in the women’s/gynecological floor. That was OK but I would have preferred to be closer to the nursery. I inquired about a private room and was eventually offered one. Just FYI-when DH went to switch me they told him it was $270 per day (not the $220 we were told earlier) and it wasn’t based on hours (i.e. 6pm-6pm). So, for a couple hours of one night and a few hours the next day, it would have cost $540! I decided to complete my stay in the semi-private room and save the money. My roommate was OK.
My recovery hasn’t been bad. I am not very sore anymore and I’ve lost half of the weight I gained during the pregnancy (in less than 6 days). Breastfeeding hasn’t gone too smoothly as my production has been low and Analise hasn’t been latching well. I saw a lactation consultant and she suggested I pump until I can get my supply up. If Analise can latch then we will do it that way, if not I will pump and give her a bottle, and if not, we will formula feed. We’ve been supplementing with formula and she has been fine.

Re: Analise Paige's Birth Story!
Congratulations Julianne!! I was thinking of you and wondering if you had the baby yet. She's just beautiful and I think she looks like you too! BFing was really tough for me in the beginning with Brendan too, lots of trouble latching, but we eventually got past the hurdle and I BF him for 8 months.
