32 week update - with some questions mixed in!

I had my 32 week appointment today. I am so happy to post that the baby is now head down Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon He has been breech and I was very worried about needing one of those extermal versions or a c-section. I'm pretty sure I felt him turn on Tuesday night while watching American Idol.
I am now up 40 lbs
Chat Icon with 8 weeks left to go. They said again cut down on carbs, but that is just IMPOSSIBLE! How much did everyone gain in the last 8 weeks?
I also have to get moving and start taking some classes. Did anyone take the breastfeeding or childbirth classes at Stony Brook hospital? Are they any good?
And I have some more news Chat Icon I have been feeling a tickle in my boob... and I just found a wet spot on my bra! Chat Icon Chat Icon So now I think I am starting to produce colostrum, which I guess is a good thing, but I can't help but feel slightly embarassed. I hope I don't end up with wet spots on my shirt at work Chat Icon Am I supossed to start wearing pads in my bra now or is it too soon?

Re: 32 week update - with some questions mixed in!

I'm just about 37 weeks and I have gained about 15lbs in total. Everyone's pregnancy is different and as long as you and the baby are healthy, I wouldn't worry.

I took the classes at Stonybrook and although they were helpful, I didn't think they were worth the money. They were very poorly organized and the breastfeeding class did very little to help me.

You can start wearing breast pads, I would. I have also started producing colustrum and it's normal.

ETA: Stonybrook Midwives has an open formun the 1st Thursday of every month where they also do a tour of L&D.

Re: 32 week update - with some questions mixed in!

I gained very little in my last 2 months of pg. My SIL gained a total of 60 pounds and was back at her pre-pregnancy weight by 6 month PP.

I have to be honest- the childbirth class I took at my hospital was crap. I'd been warned that it's pretty useless- but I wanted to take the tour. I also rented "Laugh and Learn Lamaze" which was SO much more informative, I believe.

I WISH I had taken a breastfeeding course. What I DID do though was find a lactation consultant in my area that I wound up calling just days after arriving home. SUCH a wonderful source of support for me in those first few weeks!

I also started leaking at the end- I started wearing pads in my bra. I love the Lansinoh ones- they're pretty discrete.

Only a few more weeks of solitude left!!!!Chat Icon

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about weight at 32 weeks, don't worry about anything at this point.Chat Icon

I am not worried about the weight. I don't know anyone IRL that actually stayed within the 25-35lb limit. I just want to estimate what the grand total will be, because I have heard that women gain the most weight at the end. There is no way I can eat less or cut out carbs. I would be miserable!

I'm in week 28 and my OB said the same thing to me. OK I'm up 40 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight with DC#1, BUT I got pregnant again before losing it all. So if I start from my weight when I got preggo (even though I was over weight) I'm up about 20lbs. She said she only wants me to gain 1 lb a week going forward.

I remember with DD #1 my weight gain actually did slow at the end. I just got full fast for some reason. I think my last month I actually lost a pound or 2.

When I delivered at 37 weeks and 4 days I was up 49 pounds total. I did gain a good amount of it from about week 32 on. As far as the colostrum goes, get the nursing pads for your bra. I bought the Dr. Brown ones from BRU and I love them. I am so happy your Chat Icon turned!! My baby turned at 32 weeks too!

Yes, you can wearing nursing pads now. There are washable ones that you can throw in the washing machine and use over and over

as for classes...I NEVER took a class on anything and did just fine. So it's up to you.Chat Icon

I'm almost 37 weeks and I've gained about 26 pounds. I still eat a lot of carbs, but my diet is even heavier on protein and veggies. I read if you were pretty thin before you got pregnant, then you need to put on more weight than the average during pregnancy...so I don't know why 40 pounds is so bad in your case?

Well, I do still have 8 more weeks to go. And I guess it is their jobs to tell people that too.
I am OK with it, but I always feel a little upset after my appointments because they make me feel like I am doing something horribly wrong. There is no way I can eat any less then I do now.

I'm glad he's head down and ready to go!!

I gained 50 pounds for my whole pregnancy and carbs were my best friend/worst enemy...they're all I craved!

I have a feeling that the weight is going to come off quick for you! From your pictures, it seems as if you were always in great shape. I wouldn't worry too much!Chat Icon

Re: 32 week update - with some questions mixed in!

I think you are doing great! I have to say at the end of my pregnancy with DD I really packed on the pounds - gaining 40 total, but I wasn't concerned at all and neither were the doctors. I've seen your pictures and you are slender, so enjoy your carbs!!! If you are thinner to begin with - it's normal to gain more weight than the average person. AND all of my weight and then some came off right after the pregnancy - so enjoy it!

This pregnancy at 23 weeks I am already up 19 pounds total - and not worried at all!

That is a good sign about the leaking - go ahead and where those shields - better safe than sorry!Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm so happy baby is in the right position!!! As far as weight goes...people gain 70+ pounds. You were tiny to begin with...you're fine!

I am having the leaking problem as well, so I bought those pads yesterday. I can't seem to find time to take any classes...let me know if you find any good ones!!!!
