Jack Riley 9/11/08
My birth story is pretty uneventful. On 9/10 I had an appt. with my dr. I was 2 days late and still wasn't dilated and the baby didn't drop at all. After talking with the dr. she said I could have an induction the following week. I was very scared of an induction failing and ending up with a c-section anyways. She said this was a likely possibility b/c I wasn't even a little dilated and he still was in a kinda weird position. After talking w/ my husband we decided on a c-section. She said we could either do it the next day b/c noone wanted their babies born on 9/11 or I would have to wait for next week. We decided 9/11 was fine with us (he could have just come that day anyways!) Anyways, we arrived at 7 am to do post op for blood and stuff. I was really nervous. I was scheduled for 11. At 10:45 they started prepping me and I was taken in right away. The spinal felt weird and I had uncontrollable shakes (I started shaking even before I had the spinal though). Finally after it felt like forever, DH came in and they started working on me. I felt pressure but no pain. My blood pressure kept jumping all over the place but I think I was just anxious and the anesthesiologist just kept saying it was b/c of the shaking that they couldn't get a good reading. Finally at 11:35 my love muffin was born! DH went over and did all the stuff at the table. I was so nervous I kept yelling out "does he have all his fingers and toes" etc. By 12:15 they had stiched me up and wheeled me back in to recovery. They brought the baby to me and I tried breastfeeding but I really couldn't b/c I was still shaking. They took the baby upstairs to the nursery and DH went with the baby. I stayed downstairs in recovery till about 3:30/4. Finally they wheeled me upstairs and I was able to love my cutie pie! I was out of the bed that night and was walking around the next morning. THe incision hurts but that is really it. People are surprised at how well I have been from the surgery! It is still surreal being a mommy. Tonight is our first night home and he is sleeping and I keep checking on him a million times! Labor and Delivery and the maternity ward at Winthrop were both wonderful. My only 2 complaints were that the rooms are super small if you share and they don't let you sleep really at all. I am trying to bf and they would come in to take my vitals at 2:30 am and bring the baby in 1/2 hour later. They should do it all at the same time! Here is another picture of my cutie pie!
