Weston's Birth Story 9-21-08 UPDATED WITH PIC!
On Saturday, the 20th, at around 2:00 pm I started having strong contractions. I timed them for an hour and they were coming every 3-5 minutes. So we headed to the hospital to get checked out. They hooked me up, and I was contracting, but I was only dilated to a 4, and my doctor was out of town for the weekend (my luck ) and the on-call doctor would not admit me until I got to a 5. So I layed there for another 3 hours, having regular contractions, and when the nurse came and checked me again I was only a 4 still! So she did some "streching" and got me to a 5 so they admitted me. I sent my DH home to drop the kids off with my sister, and he and my mom came back around 7:00 p.m. By that time the contractions were every 2-3 minutes, and I was dilated to a 6 so they moved me into a delivery room. I was thinking the baby would be here by midnight, but he had other plans. By 10:00 p.m. my contractions STOPPED COMPLETELY! I was so frustrated, I asked the nurse if they could break my water, or give Pitocin, and she said the on call doctor won't do anything to induce, and they can't break my water because I had excessive amniotic fluid and the cord might prolapse. So, I sat there until 12:00 noon the next day until they finally got the okay to start Pitocin. Once they started the Pitocin, I started having regular, strong contractions within 10-15 minutes. I was totally planning on having no drugs at all, but they kept cranking the Pitocin, and the contractions were HORRIBLE and when they checked me at 5:30 I was still a 6. So I decided to get the epidural. I was really upset about it, since my first two were natural and drug free. But after getting the epidural, I went from 6 to 9 within an hour. The doctor then came in and broke my water with a needle so it wouldn't come out gushing. About 10 minutes after he did that I felt it break all the way, and I was ready to start pushing! I was worried that with the epidural I wouldn't be ale to push right, but I had no problems! After 4 pushes, Weston was born at 7:40pm weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces, and 21.5 inches long. We are both doing well, he is nursing like a champ and I am just trying to function on 4 hours of sleep! I will post a picture in the morning. Image Attachment(s):
