A long but interesting birth story
So on New Years Day DH and I had to report to Winthrop for an induction at 8:00pm. We arrived and the hospital was quiet. I was quickly placed in a very nice room, vitals and blood were taken and then the IV for fluids was put in my arm...and lots of questions and paperwork!!!! At about 9:00ish the attending doctor came in to examine me...i was about 1-2cm dilated. She explained the Cervidle again and said she had to wait for it from Pharmacy and then i would get it. At 10:00pm on the nose the doc came in and gave me the Cervidle. They said i would be campy and have some pain but to hold off as long as i can for the pain medicine cause it usually only works for about 2 hours. So i held off for about 5.5 hours...and at the end i was very uncomfortable. Then the doc came in to examine me and was surprised to see that i was 3-4cm dilated and so they gave me the pain meds and said i should have relief for at least 2 hours. DH and I go back to sleep and about an hour later i am in a lot of pain having contractions. The doc came in and i was now 4-5cm dilated and it was time for the epi and LND room!!! We went off to LND and i was in a lot of pain that i did not want to get up for the Epi...i eventually got up to go to the bathroom before epi and begged the doc to give me the epi in the bathroom because i was in a comfortable position...but that was not happening. I made it back to the bed got the epi and was in heaven for a while!!! Now the doc office i go to has 3 doctors on, when i went to LND one doc was on and he was ending shift...he said it could take up to a cm an hour to dilate so enjoy the epi and go to bed. About a half an hour after he left i was in pain and feeling contractions again. A midwife came in to examine and she was like wow you moved fast, you are fully dilated and ready to push...i was in shock!!!! But i was in pain and wanted more epi, but when he came in he said if he gave me more it would be hard to push...so i began to push with little to no epi. After about an hour of pushing i was getting a severe pain in my left side different from contractions. The second doc in the practice was in and out while I was pushing but appeared that he could really care less that i was in pain. I kept saying it was different from the contractions...no one seemed to believe me so there solution was give me more epi. So the pain went away...i was way more numb...but we were pushing again and that doc came in a couple of times and never examined me. So now after another hour of pushing the pain in the left side came back but it was 10 times worse then the first time...i was so scared and had no idea what was wrong...but it was definitely different then contractions. Finally my doctor arrived (Dr. Dillena) and i swear i saw a white light from God when he walked in. I just started to cry! He came in, didn’t even change yet, just put gloves on and wanted to see what the problem was. He realized that when baby went into the pelvis he turned faced down and it was causing all the pain. Doc said we would fix this...he said he was going to give more epi for the pain and that he would have to use the vacuum to turn him around and with me pushing to get him out. They gave me another epi...numb as hell, could not feel anything from the waste down but pushed like hell. Once my doc got there I pushed for about 45 mins and then little Frankie was here. He cried right away and it was the best sound of my life. However because I was in distress while pushing I spiked a fever of 100.7 that they had a little difficulty getting rid of. Because of this Frankie had to go in the NICU for 24 hours for antibiotics and observations. All tests were negative and he was with me by the next night…exactly 24 hours later. The Nurses at Winthrop were beyond wonderful…I could kiss them all!!! We had a private room which was also a Godsend. It was quite the journey. I think if that second doc had really examined me I would have pushed less and had a better delivery experience. But it was all worth it…its behind me and me and DH are so in love with out baby boy that it was all worth it!!!
Thanks for reading my story…good luck to all and see ya on the parenting board!!!
