38 Week Appointment update...baby is coming sooner than later!
Only me, does this crazy stuff happen to.
I have been going in a few times a week to monitor my bloodpressure and signs of possible pre-clampsia. Since I stopped working, my bloodpressure has been good. However, my platelets and other things in my bloodwork have been borderline. But apparently each week, my platelets keep dropping.
Well, my doctor informed me today that if platelets fall below a certain level, you are no longer a candidate for an epidural. Anesthesia can also result in a spinal hematoma 
So to avoid possible complications, they scheduled me for an induction next week. I go in Tuesday night for cervidal and will be induced Wednesday morning.
I have to re-do bloodwork on Monday, and if for some reason my platelets go up, my induction will be postponed.
So how crazy is this situation? I may or may not be induced!!!!
I also never heard of this spinal hematoma thing before...it is a lot to absorb!

I've haven't heard of this either but I'm sure everything will work out great and the exciting part is that your  will be here sooner!

Wow! That is crazy! At least you know that the baby is coming soon!
I don't know a whole lot about epidurals and platelets. But my dad has low platelets and has to have them monitored often so it makes sense that it may prevent you from having an epidural.

If your platelets are too low your blood may not clot where they put the epidural in...this can cause the hematoma and can then compress nerves...I believe it can result in paralysis but Im not 100% sure.

I know...I have been reading up on it since I got home. So scary 
I guess that is why my doctors do not want to take any chances.

Lots of luck to you and just a word - I was induced with Cervadil and the doctor told me that nothing would happen until the next morning -i.e I would not be in labor until then well the cervadil had a different effect on me and I was in labor almost immediately after having the cervadil inserted so be prepared you may go quicker than the doctor tells you that you will.

I have the same thing but my dr never mentioned that option to me, but then again, I always go natural and they know that. Now I'm curious and will have to ask what they would do for me if I was terrified of going natural. I wonder if they'd induce like your dr. is. they are so conservative, I'm not really sure.
Anyway glad to know someone has what I have.  BUT I do hope our platelets hike up

A further complication of pre-eclampsia is HELLP syndrome which causes your platelet count to drop dangerously low but it sounds like your doctors are on top of everything. Best of luck to you !
