Hello!!! Greetings from the other side...
First of all, I want to thank everyone for the kind wishes for the birth of our little girl! I was able to check LIF from my phone, although not post, when I was in the hospital. And thanks to Jill for updating everyone on my evolving "condition".
I am pleased to officially announce the birth of my little girl-- Sasha Paige, tipping the scales at 6lbs, 15oz and 19 inches long. She is so adorable, I just want to eat her up! It has taken me a while to post since I just have been so tired, busy, overwhelmed and have only had the use of one hand (if I am lucky). I am so behind in emails and returning phone calls it's insane.
So, last Tuesday at 40weeks;5days I had a 9 AM appointment for a NST followed by a check up with my doc. I was thinking NOTHING was happening and was prepared to bust my doc's balls to come up with an induction plan. After two weeks of losing two different mucus plugs, one all in one shot and the other days later in stages-- and NO contractions, I thought this baby wasn't coming out on her own.
I woke up at 7 30 AM to shower and get ready-- much earlier than I am normally out of bed since I haven't really had anywhere to go. When I went to the bathroom, I noticed a little bit of pink blood in the mucus that I had been losing a bit of each day. I thought maybe something was up, but didn't put too much stock into it. After I got out of the shower, I was going about my business getting ready when I felt something run down my leg. Now, I was never a prego who had "accidents" when coughing or sneezing so I was like hmmmm.. I yelled to DH who was still in bed that I *think* my water just broke, so he should come to the doc with me.
My doc and the other appt were already at the hospital, so I just put my bags in the car and called on our way there-- asking if we should go to L&D or go to my appts. The on call doc said to go to triage, and ultimately I was admitted although I was not contracting.
By the time I had a "last meal" and we got settled in the birthing suite it was 11/11:30 and they gave me pitocin to give me contractions. It was not considered an induction, but an augmentation. Obvious contractions started a few hours later and I got my epi at 5.
They waited to examine me until after the epi and due to my water breaking and I was still only 2 to 3cm dilated at 6 30PM- I was 2 cm the week before, BUT I was 70% effaced. At this point, we sent our parents home since we felt it would be a long night. I started to feel "not right"--- a little naus, I felt more contractions even with the epi, more pressure, etc. I got examined again at like 9 30 and they said, well you are fully dilated get ready to push. I was like WHAT?! How did that happen so fast? DH called our parents and told them to come back-- in that snowstorm last week btw.
I have to be honest, I was scared sh!tless. I started shaking and had really bad anxiety. I was really scared and was so afraid that the moment was upon me. I said I didn't want to feel ANYTHING, and I was able to control my epi the whole time-- but, the bag ran out and I wanted more. I started pushing at 10PM.
The first pushes were really easy-- I totally pooped, but didn't give a sh!t. It was just me, DH and the L&D nurse. We had our music going and I couldn't believe I was actually delivering my baby. Then, the pushes started to REALLY hurt. It got to the point where I couldn't push anymore--- they had to give me more drugs and a local to ease the pain so I could get the baby out.
Finally, Sasha made her appearance at 11 05PM. Because I had the baby an hour before midnight, I got gyped out of a day at the hospital. I didn't sleep at all that night or the next day. It was horrible. I have to say, it was probably the worst time to deliver just based on what happens after you do-- changing rooms, waiting for the baby after the nursery admitting process, etc. Then the next day-- the nurses, getting checked, family-- it was SO exhausting. Today, 6 days later is my first day where I feel kinda normal.
Sasha is amazing-- she has taken to breastfeeding and so is so adorable. I have a baby nurse to help me which I HIGHLY recommend since I don't feel stressed or overwhelmed at home-- and I am still in pain so it helps to have someone to just bring her to me. I still spend most of my time sitting in bed since it hurts too much to sit anywhere else.
So that's it-- I left out some since I felt the post was getting a bit *too* long.. Now, without further adieu, here is my little one!!!!
