Hey CarSeat! Here's a direct question for ya'...
I'm really curious to know if there's a "best brand" of carseat - does such a recommendation really exist? Are there real differences between the $$$$ ones and the $$ ones? What are your thoughts? And do certain brands work better with certain cars or is a good seat a good seat regardless of the vehicle?

On a related side-topic. Is the Side Impact Protection a valid and worthwhile part of the seat? I purchased the Britax Boulevard because at the time, it was the only seat on the market in the US that had that feature.

Hello,
I cannot keep up with all that was written.
Here is the answer:
All car seats on the market must pass the same federal standards. There is technically no one safer than the other.
The answer is that the best car seat is the one that fits your car and can be used properly every time.
I do have some favorites for different reasons and different cars. But I comment on those on a case by case basis.
Are the upper end seats better? Well they offer different features sometimes. Most parents like the more expensive seats because the harness straps tend not to twist or bend as much. The upper end seats tend to have more padding and in most cases go to a higher weight when forward facing. They also tend to install a bit easier in some vehicles.
As far as features like side impact and head restraints, again these are design features that are placed to minimize side movement and add cushioning. But, again, I cannot say they are safer as they have passed the federal standards.
With the increase on the market of higher weight seats, some of the upper end ones are facing competition. And features that were found only on the more expensive seats are finding their way down the line.
The best seat again is the one that you can afford, that works and fits in your car and that you can use consistantly safely.
