3rd birthday and big girl room
I'm getting ready to start doing Marron's big girl room. Her birthday is 4/23. Do you think it would be rude for me to ask family to give either money or gift cards to Pottery Barn Kids so I can get the stuff for her room? She really doesn't need any new toys -- I really have more than I can handle right now.

Re: 3rd birthday and big girl room
personally, I wouldn't directly request that...
I WOULD, however, hint.... I would shoot an email with a picture from the potterybarn website and say 'we're so excited her bedroom set will be coming soon!'
and then write 'we'll now have room for her millions of toys... it's amazing how many she has... she barely has time to play with most of them'.... Now all we have to do is get a few storage containers and a few decorative accents from pottery barn and the new room is done!

if your famiily asks, then I would tell them to give you the PB cards or pick stuff out and tell them to buy it

Re: 3rd birthday and big girl room
If it were my parents or IL's, I think I would hint a little.... We're planning on doing the same exact thing in May - giving DD her big girl bedroom, and also re-doing my son's room then too (he will be 5).

Re: 3rd birthday and big girl room
I guess it depends on the family but we do this in my family. My SIL ask asked us to get her kids stuff several times before. At christmas we all send out an email list of sizes and what the kids are into and we are looking for.
Just let your close family know you are planning on doing her room over and if they didn't have a gift in mind already it would be helpful to contribute to the room.

Re: 3rd birthday and big girl room
Thanks everybody for your input. I guess I'll shoot out a subtle email and then just wait for people to ask. I know when my DH's niece was getting her room re-done we were all told my MIL to just give $$ so my SIL could buy her stuff. I'll be more tactful though and wait for them to ask.

DD's birthday just passed, but we're moving her into the extra room and the baby will be in her room. You did just give me good ideas though for 09 holidays!!
God.. did I just say that?
