Re: 3rd Birthdays...
I am in this process now, too. DS is in nursery so I think I am going to have a party with his classmates at my gym a week before his birthday and then a party at the house for family a week after his birthday (his birthday falls the day after easter this year). It was up to me I would only have the home party but, my DH really wants to have a party out somewhere.

I want a birthday party for myself there. My dh and I had so much fun going down the big slide with Jared.

Re: 3rd Birthdays...
Nothing. Didn't have a party for my son(other than family over to celebrate) and I am not doing anything this year either (DS is going to be 5 and DD is going to be 3). Yes, we'll still have family over for cake, but that's really it.
ETA: I guess the fact that their b-days are 3 days apart doesn't help. I guess I could do a combined party somewhere, but the money is a factor AND we don't need 10-20 more gifts for each child

Re: 3rd Birthdays...
I always do big parties for every birthday.
Nicholas 3rd birthday (Feb) we had at Fun for Kidz in Ocenaside (it has since closed).
Joey's 3rd (June), we had a carnival party in the backyard with a big bouncer, cotton candy, games, goldfish for favors , etc...

Re: 3rd Birthdays...
DS#1 and DS#2 are both born in Feb so we are having a party in our house with 20 adults and 8 kids - all ages.
DS#2 will be one.
In order to make DS#1 happy I am decorating two separate room - two different themes and having two small cakes.
I'm going to have a kids table, get coloring supplies, pin the tale on the donkey and maybe party songs to dance to.
My kid's b'days are three days a part too so I'll do the combined thing as long I can.
