3rd gr - habitats for 3 weeks
What is something doable that 3rd graders can accomplish in 3 forty minute periods related to habitats? I am the enrichment teacher and this is what the 3rd gr teachers would like. I need something that they can readily accomplish in that time constraint. Typical thing would be to create a habitat diorama, skit, etc.. and research that goes with it. Anything a bit more creative or higher order??? TIA!!

You could break them up into groups according to different kinds of habitats, have them research the habitats, have them research what animals they might find there, compare and contrast two different habitats, write a report and then create a habitat like as a diorama.

This is what I did w/ my 3rd graders a few years ago. I had the different habitats w/ kids in groups of 4 & they had to make a habitat (you'd be surprised at what some kids did!)--this was done at home. Then they did research on the computer & they presented it to the class. I had some kids do a skit about their habitat (the climate, conditions, what animals live there) & another do a game w/ the class about their habitat. I basically told them to be creative & I gave them the information I wanted & let them do what they wanted (I gave them ideas; such as a game, puppet show, create a magazine about it, etc)
