4 month check-up-We're starting solids!
Bella had her 4 month check up today. She's 16 lbs 3 oz and 26 1/2 inches!
The doctor wants to start her on cereal. We're starting with oatmeal because of her tummy issue. But, the dr wasn't too helpful on how to do this(how long to feed each type, when to increase) She just said to wing it. Obviously she doesn't know me, I need structure.
So how do I do this? HELP!

Re: 4 month check-up-We're starting solids!
DS just started on cereal at 3months old... the dr. told us to give him 1-2 teaspoons of cereal and add 2-3 tablespoons of formula in it to mix.. I made his more on the watery side and just added a little more water... they stay on the same food for at least 3 days to see if they have a reaction... If you notice say after 1-2 weeks of DD eating the cereal and she wants more then just increase it... Hope that helps

Re: 4 month check-up-We're starting solids!
Start with 2 tbsp of oatmeal with enough formula mixed to make it runny. It takes them a little while to get used to a thicker consistency.
Don't be surprised if she pushes a lot of it out for a while. It takes them a while to not have their tongues thrust it out.
Anyway, after doing just oatmeal for a week or so then you can either try another cereal like barley or start on a fruit or veggie. I personally stuck with the cereal I started with and added a fruit. I actually started out with 2 tbsp of prunes b/c of DD constipation. Whatever you start...stick with it for 3 days to see if DD has any reaction. Then try another fruit for another 3 days.
Some people say starting w/ veggies is better so they don't just get used to sweet foods right off the bat. My DD had no problems with fruit first and then veggies. She eats prunes, bananas, pears, apples, apples & apricots, apples & cherries, sweet potatoes, carrots, squash & peas.
Now that she's 7 months, at breakfast I give her oatmeal & a fruit, lunch she gets a fruit & a veggie and dinner is barley cereal with a veggie & a little fruit.
I hope your DD loves her new foods. It can be messy but so much fun! Good luck!
