4 month old noticing unfamiliar faces and very attached to mommy

So my 4 month old DD has recently started to notice when someone new is around, and she doesn't like it. For instance lately when friends visit she will look at them for a few seconds, look at me then start crying, like a real sad cry. She warms up to them after a while. Then the other day my sister was holding her, I walked out of the room and she started crying, that real sad cry. Right now DH is trying to put her to bed (which we take turns doing but I usually end up putting her down after nuring her most nights) and she is wailing. I went in and spoke softly to her and she stopped.

OK, I will admit having my DD so attached to me is truly endearing, but it also breaks my heart. I am returning to work in 2 months and we are about to start interviewing babysitters and I'm so nervous about her reaction to them. I know she has to "get over it", but any advice on how to help?

No advice, I'm dealing with similar issues. The funny thing is he doesn't cry around my mommy friends, but he does with DH's entire family!

I think it's just a phase they're going through. It's much worse when my DS is overtired.

My Mom was JUST telling me about this today, asking if it is happening. My DS is also 4 months but I haven't really noticed it yet...I guess soon judging by the pp's comments, lol.

Hopefully its a passing stage and your LO will be quicker to warm up to new people soon. Chat Icon
