Booking Trips

How far in advance do you usually book your trips? I always hesitate when it comes to booking because I think the price may go down a month later. It's a little silly, I know. But I was wondering how far in advance everyone usually books their trips.

Re: Booking Trips

I usually do it months in advance, but I've heard that you can get the best deals between 2-4 weeks before a trip. I'm just too chicken to do it Chat Icon

Re: Booking Trips

For us it totally depends. If we do book something months in advance, we always get a "cancel for any reason" insurance on the trip just because you never know what situation may come up months later etc.

For example, in 2006, DH (boyfriend at the time) and I booked a trip to Hawaii for October. We booked about 6 months in advance. Well, we later found out my very close cousin would be getting married in her California hometown in December and I was asked to be MOH. We cancelled our October Hawaii trip because we had to book a trip to California in December - if we didn't have the insurance, we would have lost all that money (or would have gone and spent much more overall than we meant to).

In our case, DH has to pick all of his vacation for the year at once so we know when his weeks off will be. We usually start thinking about where we want to go in January and see how things go. Then 2-3 months before hand, we'll check out prices and book our trip. Another time we booked 7 months in advance because there was a great deal. So like I said, all depends.

Re: Booking Trips

It depends. We booked a recent trip to London about 3 weeks before we left. We booked our trip to Hong Kong and Krabi (11 days to go!) last July!Chat Icon Chat Icon
