parents drinking while kids trick or treat!
So today as we were leaving my aunt's with dd, we saw parents with a cooler in a wagon and they all had solo cups! I don't think they were pulling around soda or water in there!!! Seriously?! Trick or treating is that boring that you need to drink while you're out with your kids?! The kids were elementary age too!!!

OMG...where were you? My carpool buddy does that with his friends. And yes, they are that bored. They end up at someone's house for a party.
Don't flame on me...I'm just repeating what I was told.

I'm not going to flame you but that's pretty ridiculous. it was in west sayville. There were about 6 adults and I think 2 coolers!

Sadly, that wasn't them. Which means that even more people do it. Was it only men? Or women, too? Yeah, the party I can see as well, but seriously, you can wait 1/2 an hour or so to get started.

I saw the wine brigade with their kids. I'm not a big drinker but it doesn't phase me in the slightest.
If they were drunk & their kids were running around in the street, then I'd be judging.

Re: parents drinking while kids trick or treat!
We went trick or treating today with neighbors. My DH and my neighbor had about 2 beers each (but did bring extra under the stroller lol)
I dont really see a big deal about it. In fact, most people I know or see out trick or treating do this. It has nothing to do with being bored - it's just the parents having a good time as well as the kids and no one's driving.

honestly, i'm surprised...i like to drink but it wouldn't even cross my mind to grab a beer for trick or treating. one though...isn't a big deal. but these parents were toting around TWO coolers and they all had solo cups..it looked more like a tail gating party than trick or treating with young kids!

I don't really think it is a big deal, parents take their kids to parties and will have some beers, I don't see much of a difference...

Re: parents drinking while kids trick or treat!
ill proboly get flamed for this but i agree....i dont see the need to be drinking while you are trick or treatin. but i also get mad when i see parents to busy on the phone to pay attention to there kids...espically at the park etc or to busy talking to each other. I feel like alot of parents are in their "own world" for me DD comes first above everything...take the drinking to a party when DC are in bed

I saw that today too. I dont see the big deal either....I have a drink when we are BBQing in the summer or with dinner, I dont see what the difference is. They werent trashed or anything, just having a drink while they walked.

Just wanted to point out that just because someone is having a beer doesnt mean they are "in their own world" Me and my neighbor were the non-drinking ones and my Dh and hers were the ones who walked to the door with the kids and were very involved and attentive to the children.

ITA - just bc they were having a couple drinks doesn't mean they were wasted.

Re: parents drinking while kids trick or treat!
what makes me nervous about that as opposed to drinking at a backyard bbq or something is that while trick or treating kids our out on the sidewalks, crossing streets, etc and traffic doesn't stop for halloween! i am very careful as is DH driving around the neighborhoods on halloween, but there are people that aren't.

I see your concern, but my point about BBQs or something just meant that I can have a drink or two and still completely watch my DC. I would never have a drink or two and drive, but I can certainly have a drink and keep my kid from running into traffic.
FWIW, I almost hit 2 kids today. I was only doing about 15 through the neighborhood, but once was a kid who darted down the driveway and out into the street another was a child and parent who came out nowhere from behind a parked SUV in front of my car.....neither of their parents were drinking, at least that I could see.
