I don't, but DH does! He has a stomach of steel, while my stomach is made of...cottage cheese? Whatever the opposite of steel is!

I had a bad experience with bad milk years ago and now I don't touch it if it's even the day of or before expiration.

Although with something like bread, if you keep it refrigerated, you can keep it fresh past the sell by date.

It depends on what it is. I usually smell it first. There are certain things in my fridge, like Hummus, that still is fine past the date, and other things, like Milk, that I will never drink past the date!

Throw it out even BEFORE the day it expires! My stomach can't take bad food!

I am so scared to eat something rotten so I throw everything out if it looks remotely off to me. I drive my DH crazy bc I'm constantly throwing out milk before it expires. I'm always convinced that it smells weird.

if its a day or something and it smells fine and it tastes ok then its probably ok

I actually read something recently that said even though your meat may say 10-12-06 is the sell by date that that is meant for the stores who keep everything colder (34 degrees) than the normal at home fridge (40 degrees). It said to use any meat you get within the first 2-3 days.

For the most part, I toss food on or around the expiration date. THere are a few things I think are ok: eggs are good for 4-5 weeks after the carton sell by date and processed cheeses seem to last a long time in sealed packages.

Depends on what it is. If it's dairy - NO WAY. Other than that, I'll smell it and see if it's ok.

If it smells ok, and it isn't more than a day past the expiration, I'll eat it. Any longer, or if it smells funny, it gets tossed.

I'll eat basically anything that doesn't smell or look like something it's not supposed to be.

DH keeps asking me if he can throw away the tupperware full of chicken soup that I made last week, and I keep telling him not yet!

It depends on what it is...dairy, eggs - I'll toss on the expiration date. Cereal, chips or crackers - if they still taste fine, I'll still eat them.

It depends. Milk and yogurt I throw out on the exp date. But things like eggs, crackers, pretzels, bread if I freeze or refrigerate it I'll keep a little past the exp date.

I eat/cook plenty of stuff past the expiration date. and Im still alive!!

In the case of eggs....I dont even go by the date considering that the chickens have laid these eggs MONTHS before they even get to the supermarket...Im sure me using them past the expiration date, isnt going to hurt me!!

Milk I will alwasy smell before using,,,,because sometimes milk goes bad even BEFORE the expiration date !

if the exp date is TODAY it gets thrown out. i do not keep . i dont care what it is or if people say you can still have it for a day or 2 after . i dont not do that

As my Dad always said to me "the milk doesn't know that it's expired" - I think that the date is obviously an estimate, so if it smells ok I am going to eat or drink it for 2-3 days after the date.

I am very neurotic when if comes to that. I throw anything out on the exact exp. date, maybe even the day before. It's a huge pet peeve.
