Anyone have maternity leave with ZERO pay?
My office has maternity leave...but you don't get paid at all (you have to go on disability, which from my understanding, is not much money at all)

The only thing I get is 12 weeks of paid insurance. No paychecks for me unless I have any sick days I want to use.

Ditto here. They hold my position because of FMLA and I work for a hospital!

That is absurd! How long have you been with the company?
My disability is 100% covered because i've been with my company over 5 years - some employees are covered 60 or 80 percent if they started after a certain date.

Me. I took the full 12 weeks allowed under FMLA and the only money I got was state disability - the $170/week (minus taxes!) fo 8 weeks (I had a c/s). My company gave me squat!
However, they did cover my medical expenses the entire time, and that is about half of what my paycheck would be, so I was thankful in that aspect! Medical coverage for a family is not cheap!

I only got what the State Disability gave me, $170 a week for 7 weeks (I had a c-section and the State Disablility person said I have to be out 1 week before disablility kicks in). I have been with my company 8 years. If I wanted to use my sick and vacation time I could have.

same here....my office does not pay anything but i am eligible to apply for NJ state disability.

as a teacher, i must use my sick days if i want to get paid. then under 12 weeks of FMLA i do not get paid but they continue my health insurance during that time. i am not entitled to disability at all.

FMLA is the Family Medical Leave Act, which entitles a person to take off up to 12 weeks (unpaid) to care for a sick family member or a new baby. You have to be at your job for 1 year to be eligible to take the leave, and I believe it only applies to companies with 15 or more employees.

i get nothing. I have 3 weeks vacation time that I will be using up, then staying home another 3 with no pay, then going back to work. My disability does not cover pregnancy related absence at all.

I think it's 50 or more employees.

That was the same with both my kids. $170/week before taxes for 6 weeks. I think I pocketed about $800.

oh well - we dont have 15 or more employees so I guess that act doesnt apply. I did tell my boss I will be taking about 8 weeks though and he was ok with that.

I don't know about in NY, but in NJ school employees are not eligible for state disability. I was told by my job that the reason for this is that we are able to bank our sick days from year to year so they assume that if you become disabled for any reason you will use your sick days to cover the days you are out. Unfortunately I have only been in my district for 2 years so I don't have many days accumulated. I found out that I could have taken out a private disability insurance policy. But by the time I found this out I was already pregnant so it would have been a pre-existing condition.

We actually only get paid only for any unused vacation/personal time we have not used and are not eligible for disability but get 12 weeks for FMLA.
However, my company is good in one area...if for some reason you have complications with the pregnancy (i.e. bed rest, etc.) they pay you full sick time until FMLA kicks in. That gives me a little piece of mind.
