We're painting the bedroom. I don't want to sleep on the couch.

What's the deal? Are paint fumes really THAT bad for you? We have the windows open and only 1 wall is wet at a time...

Yeah, they're pretty noxious. Think of those black markers that get you 'high' and how those aren't good for you and they are the size of a pen.

The smell is supposedly the chemicals in the wet paint combining with the air as the paint dries. They say ventilate as much as possible.

There is also a correlation between exposure to the fumes and asthma in both children and adults.

Yes they are - I can't remember which one it is but it can give you liver or kidney damage. The same applies to dry cleaning fumes as well.

This is why they tell you when you paint to ensure you have window fans and windows open for the best ventillation and that it takes 2-3 days for the fumes to be gone with good ventilation.

Etd to say painting the room itself is fine esp if it is ventilated it is the sleeping in the room that I would not recommend

Re: Are paint fumes really THAT bad?

Im not sure...while I was preggo they were painting my building at work, I called my DR a/s/a/p and asked him if it was ok for me to be around it, and he said as long as the building was well ventilated Id be fine... He told me to stay close to an open window...and if I started feeling light headed, dizzy, nauseous etc. to leave!

I was fine, and so was my baby!

Its a little different though...I wasnt sleeping so I was aware of how I was feeling..

I painted my bedroom and slept in it that night. No issues.

I had a window fan blowing fresh air into the bedroom all night.
