Re: Anyone ever visit Martha's Vineyard?
I was there in 2002. DH and I rented a home with our friends for a week.
MV is nice and I'm glad I got to vacation there, but I'd recommend Block Island over it any day. (But I guess it depends on what kind of atmosphere you're looking for.)

Re: Anyone ever visit Martha's Vineyard?
when were you planning on going?
Most people who go to MV or BI rent homes. They have some B&Bs and small hotels, but the majority are home rentals.
We found BI to be much more relaxed/casual. MV has a much more "stuffier" atmosphere. MV is a bigger island and I felt much more crowded. As for the beaches, it depends on which ones you visit. We happened to find nice beaches on both islands, so that really wasn't an issue.
MV & BI are definitely different than the Caribbean or CA though. So if it's tropical you're looking for, you're not going to find it at MV or BI.
