Re: Question for IVF-ers...
We discussed this with our RE yesterday as a matter of fact.... IF we get 3 high-quality we will transfer all 3. That improves our chances for 1, and the possibility of 2 is OK with me...and the chances for 3 are very, very slim. I think you need to speak with your RE about his statistics. And this may all be moot, if we only get 1 or 2 good eggs anyway...
I am also trying to decide about ICSI -- especially since it is $2,500 a pop, with no insurance.... Do I need to do it really??
It is all so difficult...

Some clinics have limits and will only put 2 or 3 in, it depends.
I unfortunately never got to ER or ET but DH and I had decided that if possible we would do 2-3. Now I am investigating natural cycle IVF which is only 1 or 2 if you get them.
Good luck!!

Re: Question for IVF-ers...
I have always put back 4, well except for the one time I only had three.
This is something that you will discuss with your RE...it all depends on your age and your diagnosis...

that is kind of my thinking - if i am COMPLETELY fine with the possibility of twins - why wouldn't i put three back? i am assuming that the possibility of all three sticking is very slim - but i can not find any info. on the statistics for triplets for patients that have chose to put three back.
the reason i am so torn is because everyone i speak to, even my doc, is pretty adament that i put two back. i would rather increase my chances and take my chances with the multiples. am i being ridiculous?
as for the icsi, we are doing that on half my eggs. my doc wants to see the relationship between the half he icsi s and the half that fertilize naturally. he says it will help him to see if our problem lies with fertilization.
but if i did not have insurance, i would not icsi any of them if i had a good response. i would wait to see how many eggs i was dealing with and then decide. it is SO expensive!!
baby dust to everyone - i hope the stork finds all of us this year!!!!

Re: Question for IVF-ers...
A lot of doctors or clinics have different ideologies on how many to transfer. If less is best or more is better etc.
If you go to www.ivfconnections.com, you will gain a ton of information.
Kara, ICSI does raise the cost. However, it almost ensures fertilization. A lot of people leave it up to the embryologist to decide whether to do ICSI.

Yes, ICSI is extra $$. It's $2500 at Cornell too. Assisted Hatching is $1500.

Re: Question for IVF-ers...
Denise, every insurance policy is different -- mine covers 3K max (that is to say, diddly squat) for all IVF procedures.
We have pretty much decided we will leave it up to the embryologist re: ICSI.
And about that stork ---- someone give that guy a GPS for gosh sakes!!!!!!!! He seems lost!!!

Re: Question for IVF-ers...
We put two back and it did work. Not sure yet if it's twins or a single...will find out definitely on Monday. At my first sono they saw one large sac with the baby & h/b and a second smaller sac so I'm anxious to see if the little one holds on.
DH and I agreed no more than two. If you put 3 back there is a chance that all could take and the thought of triplets terrified me.
Best of luck.
