Re: Walker opinion

My son loved his walker. I would put him in it while I made dinner and he would run all over the kitchen and dining room. The walker he has, has a square design to it so it cannot tip over.

eta: It hasnt slowed his walking, he is 10.5 months and starting to walk on his own

The general opinion is usually that there is a safety hazard when using them, because they can fall down the stairs. However we choose to used a walker for Claire from around 6 months - 10 months and had no problems. She used it on the 1st floor and the basement door and gate were always closed, and we kept all potentially dangerous items out of her reach. I found it to be a good option when I couldn't hold her and didn't want her squirming on the floor.

She had a GREAT time cruising from room to room, it was like freedom for her!........Some people also believe that is delays them for walking, but I didnt not find this to be the case, Claire was walking by 12 months.

We didn't have one. So my only opinion is to make sure you've baby proofed your house well so they dont' knock things over on to themselves.

Re: Walker opinion

both my children used walkers. they were never near stairs, and the walker was not able to fit thru any of my doorways. just be careful that the baby cant reach anything heavy and pull it down on themselves. other then that my kids loved the walker. they used to move so fast in it. i did find however that my son was getting too dependent on it. so at 11 months i took it away from him. right after that, he started walking on his own. but when my dd used it she was walking at 9 months. so it depends. all in all, my kids loved it. and it gave me some time with free hands.

We will not be using a walker. Not so much for the safety reasons but because a lot of what I have read says that babies who use walkers crawl less and crawling is an important part of left brain/right brain development. She also has enough "things" that I personally don't want something else to put her in.

I heard about that too, and also that walkers cause them to eventualy walk on there tippy toes. My cousin was in a walker when he was a baby and when he learned how to walk on his own he would walk on his tippy toes. Chat Icon

Re: Walker opinion

Jared loves his walker. He zooms around the house in it. We don't have any stairs so we don't have to worry, but things on the tables is a different story...Chat Icon
