Gestational diabetes quick ?

For those who had gestational diabetes did it stick with you? I took the 1 hour test and find out the results later this week.. I am a bit nervous because my mother passed away at 40 from complications from her diabetes, she had got them right after I was born.. TIA

I have tested my BS a few times since I had Emily and it's always been normal. I am going to ask my doc what the protocol is for rulingi t out completely when I see them for my 6 week checkup on Thursday

Mine did not. I didn't test with blood test kit after I gave birth - my dr said no need to at all so I didn't. I did take a 2 hour glucose at 6 weeks PP and was fine.

They say you are at higher risk to develop it later in life so you should take precautions and let your MD know about this to watch for it. My dr said if you eat relatively healthy, are in decent shape, not very overweight, your lessen your risk.

I had my 6 week checkup and the Dr didnt even ask me if I tested since I gave birth. He also didnt mention anything about taking a 2hr test. I did test and my levels were great!

It is VERY rare that it sticks with you after birth. Your placenta is what brings it on so once that is delivered the GD goes away.

You may be at a higher risk for future diabetic conditions but I am sure the GD will go away.

Totally agree with what Michele said. I had GD with one pregnancy and not the other. Right after my first birth they tested my BS and it was normal. I get tested yearly when I go for my physical since it is in the family.
