Mother's Day plans?

What are you doing for Mother's Day? Whatever we choose we are going to be missing spending the day with one of our mothers, and I feel awful about that. My grandma lives in Queens and is 90 so really doesn't travel anymore, and my mom will be with her (we are in Suffolk). We can't really fit all of DH's siblings/sig. others/kids to have his whole family over for a meal along with my family.

This year I am thinking we should go our seperate ways.
We never do that, but there as been a lot of family togetherness.

We can't have both moms over, b /c there are other people inlvolved, too.

Usually, we see MIL, b/c she cares more, but they don't always do something, so in that case we go to my mom's. She always has my grandmother over.

We are thinking of going our seperate ways to. I feel terrible
but DH's family lives in NJ and mine in Suffolk county.
It's to much running around to try and do both.

Re: Mother's Day plans?

It's going to be a tough weekend. My parents and us have a wedding that weekend and in different states. Our wedding is Sat in NY and theirs is Sat in Maryland. So my parents will actually be in Maryland almost the whole time we're in NY.

Mothers day is going to be spent running around. I want to see my grandmother (plus she has the beginning signs of dementia) which I may do on Saturday after I get my hair done.

I want to see a friend of ours whose son turns one that weekend and we cant make the party. She is in NJ. Then his mom in PA.

We are cramming in so much in such a short period of time Chat Icon

Re: Mother's Day plans?

Both moms live out of state so we never celebrate Mother's Day together. Since I am a mom, we just do things as a family together and my sister will come by and we exchange small gifts.

Re: Mother's Day plans?

In the past DH and I have split up. He goes to his family and I go to mine. It isnt ideal but there is no way that we could pick one family over the other.

Re: Mother's Day plans?

Our Mother's Day plans are to see the Yanks kick some Oakland butt.
Then we'll probably stop by and say "Hi" to DH's Mom. We normally have a brunch with her, but we already had these tickets. I'm sure she'll think I planned it.Chat Icon

Re: Mother's Day plans?

I feel bad - since my mom passed away, we usually spend Mother's Day with MIL. But we booked a trip to NC to see my brother and his family so we will be away that weekend. We didn't do it on purpose, but that is when the trip works out best for us. I feel like his mom is probably kinda upset at us, maybe not mad, but disappointed, but what can we do? I think we'll wind up doing one on Saturday. I just feel bad doing that because we miss out on seeing the whole family (Nana on your side, probably you guys, and on mine my brother and uncle). Chat Icon Seems like there is no way to win. Chat Icon Holidays are the hardest part of being married!

Aw Chat Icon. I've never realized how hard it must be, because Joe's family just doesn't care about any holiday except Christmas (and the large part of their celebration is on Christmas Eve), so it's really easy for us.

We always have a problem cause we live out hee in LI and DH's entire family is in NJ/Bklyn. It is just too crazy for us to keep going back and forth for holidays--we spend too much time in the car!!! Saturday we are going out with the IL's and Sunday we are going to brunch with my family.
