What do you do with husbands who are crazy over their entertaiment center and where do you put everything?

What do you do with husbands who are crazy over their entertaiment center and where do you put everything?

OK, so now that we're in the house and have some living room furniture, my husband has started buying all the things he wants for his super duper entertainment center (more power, grunt!). I didn't say anything about the big plasma, DVD or the receiver...but yesterday, the speakers he ordered came in the mail. Holy crap! These things are so big! A center channel, two front speakers and two back a huge sub. I asked why he couldn't get the nice little surround sound speakers and I got a lecture in audio speak that I tuned out.

So my question is, for those who have husbands (or are one) that put a lot into their entertainment center, where did you put it all? He wants to hang these huge things on the wall and I have no planned floor space for they eyesore of a sub. Any pictures of rooms with them would be appreciated too.

I am really no help because we bought a house with the system all built in (we have speakers all throughout the house - upstairs hallway, kitchen, bathrooms, etc) My DH is definitely as much of a nut as yours about this stuff but mine can't do anything about it since the house came this way!
I wish you the best of luck. It really is as bad any addiction, isn't it? Chat Icon

I can't believe those two huge ones you have in the middle!

The receiver, dvd, vcr, cable box, and tuner all fit ont he shelves under the TV, and that's OK. It's the darn speakers and the sub that are driving me nuts. It's just all so asthetically unpleasing.

I should just put a cushion on the sub and make it an ottoman.

Oh no, no, no!! That isn't my house! That was actually in a listing that someone else posted earlier today!!!

This is my living room (everything tastefully hidden!) with the previous owners furniture. We bought the sound system from them that you see here. It is on the lower left shelves of the built-in bookcases on the left.

I will see if I can find any pictures of the speakers that are built into the ceilings.

Use my living room in my co-op as a good example.

Less is more. I used a simple stand... and mounted my speakers to the wall and fished the wiring through the wall. If you have bigger speakers... you can just get wall stands and do the same.

I don't care for really gargantuan entertainment units. They take up too much space.

In my house... I will be wallmounting the plasma to the brick wall next to my fireplace. All my cable box and other components will be inside the wall on a shelf. There will be absolutely nothing on the floor. Its gonna look real good once its all said and done.

Oh! I like the speakers in the ceiling!! Iw onder if we can manage something like that. Unfortunately, the speakers are here and won't be returned for smaller ones, so, I have to find some way to live with them.

big does not = power.

we have small speakers and 7.1 sound...

our plamsa is mounted to the wall with no wires showing. instead of being balances equally with sounds, i just left my left/right front speakers on the floor right next to my low profile entertainment center ( size could pass for a coffee table)

i can post a picture later on.

You best bet is to have a custom entertainment system that will blend in your huge front speakers so it doesn't apear to be so high tech..

I know very well the WAF. Chat Icon

The guys on the entertainment sites were VERY jealous when I said I had super high WAF when I bought my second 50" plasma (for the bedroom).

DW has bad eyesight... and she us much happier now that she can actually SEE the TV while laying in bed. Chat Icon

Other guys in the same situation that bought the same plasma had to return it due to very poor WAF. Chat Icon

We are going through this right now. Luckily the receiver fits in our TV console and the sub woofer fits behind the console. We are going to hang 3 speakers on the walls around the room in the corners and there are 2 speakers on stands on either side of the TV. I'm not loving the look of those, but the sound is great so I'm hoping I'll just get used to it.
