Anyone lock into an oil price recently?
I just got a call from Slomin's and they told me my lock in rate of 2.19 is going to expire tomorrow. They offered me a new lock in rate of 2.89!
A big difference from what we were paying!!!
Anyone lock in recently? Would you mind sharing for how much and with who?

2.89 is insane. Are there any companies out there that simply offer a price for a service contract?
Would it be better to pay for a service contract separately... and do COD oil?

Now's probably not the time to lock in, oil prices are through the roof today with the news about Iran getting nuclear capability (fears of a new war). You'd probably be better off COD for the time being, monitoring oil prices and locking in when things are a little more normal.

You can get a separate service contract. That's what we do, DH refuses to lock in with the way oil prices have been changing wildly the past few years. I don't really agree with him, but it's not worth the arguement.

Who do you have your separate service contract with?
We get our oil deliveries and the service contract through Slomins. We have the contract where we pay like $200 a year and all parts and labor are covered, but if we need a new oil burner we'd have to pay for that.
ETA: Slomins comes every 2 months or so to deliver oil and we just pay what the going rate is. Sometimes it's around $1.50, sometimes it's near $3 a gallon.

We haven't locked in, we do COD and it's cheaper...middle of Jan it was $2.08 middle of Feb it was $2.04 and then beginning of April it was $2.36

We do COD also. But our burner is so old we would not have been able to get a service contract anyway. We just filled up over the weekend and paid $2.11. We also haven't had any service issues with our burner this winter so we got lucky! But we're getting a new burner this spring so I think we'll take our chances without a contract again. I actually prefer the COD.

My contract is up this month so we have to lock into a new price starting May 1st! I am hoping it is not much more than the $2.24 I am paying now. I also never had to pay for a service contract.
