Another daycare question...
How does everyone feel about a day care center vs. a private day care in someone's home?
I think I like centers better- I like that they are so regulated by the state, parents dropping in all the time, etc. I feel like you never can really be sure what is happening in a private house (assuming they are not relatives or close friends).

I worked in a daycare (they insisited it was a "school") for three months and #1 HATED IT and #2 SWORE I'd never put my child in a situation like that.

I prefer the in home (private) care for now while Jake is still very small and young. There are less children, therefore they get more personal attention. In my case, this type of care is more flexible in terms of scheduling and hours. If one of us is running late to pick up the baby, it's not an issue.
Later on, I hope to be able to put him in more of a "school" type of daycare center so that he is socializing more and learning more. I know they do many more activities and developmental play than at my current provider.
Another difference is price. Daycare centers are generally more expensive than private care.

Stephanie - A lot of girls I know who are looking for private care put up notices at local colleges. There is usually a posting board for jobs. Everyone I know has had a lot of luck with this. The only down fall is that you have to be flexible.
Also - try gonannies.com - They are a good resource for in your home care.

I still don't know how comfortable I am leaving my baby in a strangers home, you know what I mean?
At least at a center they are being monitored and watched all the time.

I worked in a daycare center for 5 years and I am all for the daycare centers .. I agree with you on the monitoring and the flexiblity and the the structure the government has on their regulations. I worked at a Non profit center and the teachers that are there are there becuase of the children ( Its definetley not for the pay! )

How did you find a private daycare? Is it someone you know?
I ended up going with someone I know but I found two others -certified and registered in Nassau County through the Nassau County Child Care Council. Unfortunately, the two that I wanted from there were already full by the time I called.

I send my daughter to Tutor Time and she loves it and so do we. I love that it's monitored. Her day is pretty structured regarding breakfast, naps, etc. One thing I love about it too is that she's outside on nice days, she is NEVER watching television which is huge for me. She is pretty much playing all day long with children her own age. Yes it is a little more expensive, but worth every penny. My daughter is only in 3 days a week.
