Nutrisystem- how is the food REALLY?

I have been debating the past 2 months about doing nutrisystem. I want to lose 30lbs so badly, but I dont want to waste $300 bucks on a month of food just to hate it.

Also, can you drink on Nutirsystem? What happens if I get preggo- is all the sodium really bad for you?

Thanks!

I hated the food - couldn't make it more than a few days. I returned it and got a full refund for everything I sent back.

If you read the NutriSystem thread a lot of people like it though ...

Re: Nutrisystem- how is the food REALLY?

I love it.

The first month was good just had to pick out the food I like and the food I didnt. I did some food trading on Nutrisystems website and on I bought some food and sold some food I didnt like, but now I am on the second month and I have all the food I like and things are going really well for me and this plan.

Re: Nutrisystem- how is the food REALLY?

I started N/S back in September and was on it up until this past month ... I was very successful on the plan , having lost close to 36 pounds, so it did work for me. I have now weaned myself off the food and am just back to eating normal/healty..maintaining my weight for the time being..

In any event- I DID like the food, but of course its not like going out to restaurants, eating home cooked meals or what have you. It does take some getting used to AND you will find things that you just cannot stomach at all. I did the plan consistently for 5 months and after a while,I had maybe 10-15 meals for breakfast/lunch/dinner that I loved and the rest I never ordered again. So its a bit of trial/error at first and you do have to give it a chance to see if its the right plan for you.. Also you should know that you do not eat ONLY NutriSystem food. You also add in veggies/fruits/dairy products to make the meal plan more 'well rounded' .. So you do get to eat 'real food' too!

The good thing is that like Wendy said, if you get the food and just HATE it, you can return what you don't like for a refund. So you dont have to worry about losing money altogether.. And as Scott said, you can do very well on Ebay selling certain food items you just don't like and then 'customizing' your meal plan for the following month's shipment of food...

NutriSystem does not recommend that you diet and/or eat their food during pregnancy, (nor would any doctor I would imagine) so if you do get PG on the plan, I would go off it immediately and go back to eating a healthy variety of foods. I don't believe it has anything to do with the sodium content (I found the N/S to have a lower sodium content than lets say Lean cuisines or WW frozen meals) but in general, the plan is a no-no for PG ladies..

As for drinking - I'm sure that you can incorporate a drink here or there into the plan, but overall I do not believe that drinking is really 'recommended." I can look it up for you, but since I rarely drank while doing N/S (Unless it was a holiday, etc) it didn't really factor in for me.

Its a great plan, IMO. But as is EVERY weight loss plan out there, it's just not for everyone....

Good luck whatever you decide!

Re: Nutrisystem- how is the food REALLY?

I love it and like Flee said yes its like anything else your not used to doing, you get used to it. I started thanksgiving day weekend and up to date have lost 19lbs. and inches. I have snuck in a drink here and there- Im not a big drinker to begin with and have snuck in 'regular" meals here and there too.
If you get PG Im sure you can return the food and cancel your membership/automatic replenishment. Good Luck!!!!

As usual you were soooo helpful and I appreciate it! I cant imagine losing 36lbs. That is sooooo awesome, did you work out everyday? When you added the "real foods" were you cooking and then using the N/S as the main 'dish' ? Like umm sauteed vegetables with a N/S entree? does that make sense?

anyway, I bet you look incredible and what an inspiration!

aww thank you!!! Flee inspired me!!! I did workout in the first and second month, after that I slowed down but starting monday going back full swing. I alternate the gym with jazzercise.

and yes to your question about saute vegies, you can, you can use the oil as your fat serving for dinner to saute the vegies in. Its really not hard at all to follow, really really easy. and you will NEVER be hungry. You actually eat a lot if you follow the plan strictly and not miss a meal. I found that I lost more in the weeks that I did follow it to a T , if I skipped a meal or snack somedays, I didnt lose as much or nothing at all. Good Luck!!! and you can def lose 5-10 in 4 weeks, but usually to get those results stay strict, drink your water and exercise to get the maximum amount of weight loss.

You will hear that we cheated or others substituted apple bees WW entrees but I have to say stay AWAY from doing that, you will NOT lose the weight off quickly enough and be very disappointed, I dont think its wise to mix meals while trying to reach your goal unless you dont mind the weight coming off slowly. Its like anything else when you first start something, like a job, you get used to it. My first week I lost 6 lbs. My gf lost 8.

I got another compliment today from a coworker who hasnt seen me in a month( we work opposite days) and I was so happy when she said OMG, you lost so much weight your belly is gone! I was like Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

If you do it, stay away from the oatmeals and muffins for breakfast. I personally HATE the beef dinners I only like the macaroni with the beef, the pastas are AWESOME, the desserts eh cant go wrong with your choices they taste pretty much true to description. Lets see what else to steer clear of when ordering, oh the mashers for lunch! this way you can get some insight and def read the thread to see what NOT to order that you will hate and then feel like you wont or cant do it. the first month for me was hard, I picked the favorites cause I couldnt decide and ugh, I couldnt wait to pick my own, but it was a good test too. If you have any questions dont hesitate to FM me!!! best of luck to you!!!

I ordered it and ended up returning most of it. I stuck to it for about 2 weeks and only lost about 2lbs, after going off and doing WW again Ive lost another 3lbs. I liked some of the food and hated some of the other items, also on the weekends and some nights when we had plans I felt like it just threw me off. The foods are very high in sodium.

I felt like I could prepare my own meals which would be more satisfying and the same amt of cal and fat as the NS entrees. But NS did teach me about portion control and I do eat 5 times a day now instead of 3.

Re: Nutrisystem- how is the food REALLY?

I think some of the entrees are decent but DH thinks they all tate the same.

The desserts and chips and snacks are pretty tasty.

THe breakfast bars ar good( love the cranberrry ones)

AS far as lunches _ HATE mashers- the asian noodles are ok. the soups are good.

Dinners- love the beef tacos, the beef with orzo, the cajun chicken and the lasagna.

Its all small portions - the best way to see what you like is to do it for a month and by month 2 customize your order. I would go throught the NSthread and see what people liked and hated and maybe even customize your 1st order.

Good luck!
