Having problems with milk (TMI)

Christopher started milk last Thursday and liked it right away. I gradually introduced it with first 1/4 bottle, then 1/2, the 3/4 and then by Sunday, he was drinking a full bottle of milk. He was fine with it until Tuesday night. Since then he's been having diarreah (2-3 times a day) and has a horrible diaper rash (not sure if it's associated or not). Is his body just adjusting to the change or is this some sort of minor allergic reaction? Any advice? TIA!

Same thing happened to Kevin except he also vomited. The doctor has us go back to Soy formula for two weeks and then try the milk again. Same reaction. Now he's on soy milk and doing well.

I think its a milk allergy and am hopeful he will outgrow it in a few years.

I'd check with the ped. to see what they say.

Re: Having problems with milk (TMI)

I could of posted this, Julia has been the same way since she was on Milk and I had no idea it was from that. I was also giving her the yo-baby yogurt and she would have bad diarrhea and very sore tushy. Once I stopped the yogurt and went to one sippy of milk a day, she stopped pooping so much and her tushy healed up. I'm going to try the lactate free milk and see if she likes that.

Our kids are all very close in age (some of ours are exactly the same age Chat Icon ) and my ped just told me today that the diaper rash that Jake also has could be taking so long to go away completely because of teething, believe it or not. She said that at 1 year they start getting their molars and the acidity in their saliva changes which affects their poop and makes it more irritating to their skin.

She told me to mix some Mylanta into the diaper rash cream and that should help. It will also help if he's having problems from the milk. I didn't do it yet but I'm going to start tomorrow and see if gets better. I'll let you all know if it works.

If it's his molars, that would explain a lot. He's been extremely irritable lately! I'll try the Mylanta and see if its helps. Thanks!!! Chat Icon

One way to see if its the milk is to go back to what he was drinking before and see if the rash and diarrhea goes away and then re-introduce it.

With Kevin, it went away with the soy and came back as soon as we gave him milk again.

I'd check with the doctor before doing this though.

Thank you! I'm honestly not sure what to make of it now. The rash is almost completely cleared and he's a bit constipated today and we haven't changed anything, so I'm baffled.Chat Icon
