My DD was 6 months old when she was able to sit up on her own. She would still be a little wobbly from time to time.

Is that something you helped her with or she just did on her own.

Adrianna- do you put Luka in an activity center? This helped Sofia strengthen her back. I also would sit on the a playmat with her and lean her up against me so she can start sitting up. They will be wobbly at first but if you do this everyday eventually he will learn to sit up. You can try this for a little while at a time everyday.

Re: Sitting up

do you mean sitting there when I put him that way? I guess around 6 mo, but for him to get into that position himself - it was awhile later - maybe 8 mo - he pulled himself up before he could get into a sitting position on his own

He sits in his jumperoo and the high chair. I had the Bumbo but he didnt like it and we do not have an exersaucer. I try to sit with him on the floor with him inbetween my legs and put some toys infront of him. I guess its just practice for him. Now only if he could push himself to roll over.

Great post!

Jordana wants to sit up and can pull herself up, but only as to her shoulders (like she is doing a mini crunch).

As for sitting up-on her own, she did it the other day for about 3 minutes and we were shocked!! She usually sits up for about 5 seconds and then slumps over.

What I do to work on her sitting up is I either lay her against my body or put her in the boppy on the gymini or the Elmo toy so she is sitting up. It gives her something to look at some stimulation at her eye level.

ETA: Jordana is 5 months

Ry was sitting up a little over 6 months but I had to be right there because he topples over. He is almost 8 months and is much better but everyone in a while he will still fall over.

Re: Sitting up

Peyton's finally sitting up - she's almost 7 months. She can only sit up if I put her down, she cannot pull herself around to do it from the ground up.

DS started to pull himself up in his swing at around 4 months old. He's now 6 months old and can sit up with a little help from his arms but once he's up he's a little wobbily, meaning if he leans the wrong way....he's down! He still has some work to do!! Chat Icon

Brendan is 6 months and he has been tripod sitting for a few weeks now. Now he can sit up by himself without the support of his arms, but not good enough where I can put him down and leave him yet. He will still do a face plant into the floor.

Andrew can sit up by himself now without any help besides his arms. He is almost 4 months old.

I have been doing strengthening exercises with him since he was born. And the ped said they really worked.

He pulls himself forward from a sitting position but hasn't gotten that down yet. Still a little hard for him.

Re: Sitting up

Started at 6 1/2 mths....now she is 7 1/2 months and spends most of her days between sitting on the floor surrounded by cushions and sometimes she puts herself down into a lying down position...

Be careful while they are still at this wobbly stage as DD fell forward the other day and caught the corner of her eye on one of her plastic bricks....Chat Icon it started to bleed but only for a minute and she is fine - I of course am not and now watch her like a hawk and have taken away anything with sharp corners etc on it.
