homeowners insurance -- where do i start?
i am totally clueless...please help.

We used an insurance broker and he gave us a whole bunch of options / companies and we ended up going w/ Travelers.

We have Liberty Mutual. We had our car and life insurance through them so we added our Homeowner's. But there was a recent post here saying Liberty isn't taking on any new policies. Not sure about that. You can call Kathi in the Farmingdale office (FM for # if you want). She is so nice and can point you in the right direction I'm sure!

we are using state farm.. just call up, and ask for a homeowners quote.. they will take it from there!

I would start with the company you have your auto insurance with. They will be able to give you a multi policy discount.
From there get other quotes. Make sure you're not just looking at the premium, but the coverage ALSO! So many people are underinsured because all they care about is the bottom line.

I heard good things about State Farm and Liberty Mutual.
hmmm, I wonder if Allstate is backpedaling now that "the worst hurricane year in history" was proven to be false?

State Farm. I have a broker if you want the name. He's great but works out of Tarrytown. It's ok, since you will probably never have to go there.
I've been using him for years for our homeowners, umbrella policy and personal articles.
