How does this happen?
So last night I bought red peppers from Pathmark for my salad. I took one and chopped it in half. I looked inside one half and all the seeds were brown and moldy  gross. Ok - look on the other side and staring back at me is a giant moth and more mold!! a LIVE moth  After I screamed and threw it halfway across the room, then wrapped it in a bag and threw it away, I realized there were no holes in the pepper - how did a moth get in there? Or is it like maggots - how they seem to generate out of nowhere?

You should have brought them back to Pathmark and got either a refund or get two new peppers!!! Peppers are too expensive to just throw them away

No, it's already in the trash - I don't care about the $, it just grossed me out. I think I will buy the veggies from the farmer's market from now on.
But I just wonder, scientifically, how did that moth get in there???

Yeah think that is bad well a friend of ours told us that she was drinking a cup of tea, as she sat at her table enjoying her tea...she decided to rip open the tea bag and inside was a beetle and a large one at that! She called the company and they told her they were sorry but things like that happen....

The larvae burrow in from the stem usually. And then they eat the seed (hence the moldy gross seed) and turn into moths and chew their way out.
I used to garden all the time, so I know these disgusting things.
BTW, the grossest thing of all is a squash borer!

You don't need to bring the item back to get your money back.
DH used to work at Waldbaums and he said he hated when people brought moldy stuff back instead of just throwing it out. He said he would have given them their money back without the item.

That happened to me once with green peppers. I reacted pretty much the same...loud scream and a pepper flying across the kitchen! 
No idea how they get in there though.
