I need to find a pediatrician before going to my next doctors appointment. I have one that my friend brings her daughter to whi is highly recommended but my question is..when I call...what do I say? What do I ask?? I know my first question is asking if they accept our insurance but what else am I supposed to do?? What did you do??

For me, I got the name of the group and the ped I wanted to use and when you have the baby they will ask you who the ped is...you give them all the info. Then they contact the ped. I didnt have to call him at all. He came to see her and me after she was born and they contacted his office.

I interviewed my pediatrician ahead of time.

Things I asked:

Hours/ days
What happens after hours
Immunization policy
Emergency/ sick visits- what's the policy (for example my doctor will take youngest first and by order of emergency so that little infants are not in the waiting room long)
How many Docs in the practice
Hospitals they are affilated with
Well visit schedules


Those are just some that I can think of

Me too! I think it's a good idea to get a feel for them first. I interviewed a few doctors and I did not like one in particular who came recommended.

I just called and said that I was having a baby in late November and wanted to come in and hear about the office. It was something they are very used to and have a process for.
