I used to take the LIRR from Farmindale to Penn, and then switch to NJ Transit to Newark.... in the mornings, I slept (was on a 6:15 am train), and in the afternoons I read.

I read ALOT of books during that time period

I used to drive from Manorville to Ronkonkoma and then get on the train to Penn, walk over to the Path Train and take that to Jersey City.

My company moved from Mineola to Jersey City. I left shortly thereafter. The commute was 2 1/2 each way barring no delays!!!!

When I lived with my mom for 6 weeks in 1999 I did! I left her house in Coram at 6:40 to make the 7:05 to Penn, got there at 8:30 and then took the N train uptown!Chat Icon I slept the whole way there.

I travel from Islip to Penn - it's 1 hr 15 on an express train. I read and sleep in the morning and read in the evening. I get all my books at the library and go through 2 a week. I actually like the commute and much prefer working in the City than I did on LI.

I take the train from KP to Hunters Point and then take the 7 to midtown.

You read and sleep. That's the only way to deal.

I'm 1hour 20 min but on the Port Jeff line. most people Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon , read, do bills, write letters (a lost art form).

I edit most of pictures on the train using my laptop, get creative with invites for my kids parties (for example, the year, each kid got an invite with their name on the invitation. Last yearr I did photos of my son on the front & "Guess who's invited?" on the back with a photo of the kid that was invited.) I also watch movies.

You get used to it.

I used to travel from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station - I usually slept.

I had an uncle who went from Stony Brook to NY for 20+ years - when he retired he said he was never so rested as when he was commuting because he got an hour nap coming and going! Chat Icon

There's definately something to be said about that too! When I finally moved to NJ, I didn't realize just how much I relied on that extra sleep time in the morning. It took me a while to adjust to not having a nap.

It's a grind, but I sleep when possible, read, do some work on the train and write in my journal. I don't have that commute but mine is about 50 minutes each way.

Re: Anyone take the LIRR from Ronk. to the city for work?

For 6 years I did this-and it's an hour and twenty minutes when you catch an express-other wise an hour and forty minutes. With the subway and driving to the train (I lived very close to the Ronkonkoma line) it was a 2 hours each way door to door on a good day. Horrible way to live for me-you have to have reading material to make it bearable.

Re: Anyone take the LIRR from Ronk. to the city for work?

I take the 7:04 out of Ronkonkoma and it S U X!!
I try to sleep but I also bring my iPod, at least one book, a magazine, the newspaper and the mail I didn't get to the night before.

Between driving to the station and then taking the subway to work, it's a 2.5 commute each way.

Major bummer. Chat Icon But I gotta pay the bills!
