question about the 1 hour glucose test

My doctor told me that I do not need to fast for the 1 hour glucose test, and that it does not matter what time of the day I come in to take the test. Her nurse, told me that the chances of passing the test are better when you fast and when you take it first thing in the morning. I need to reschedule the appointment and wanted to know if anyone could offer any insight into this.
Thanks!

Re: question about the 1 hour glucose test

Every doc will say something different. I did not fast for my 1-hour and passed it my first pregnancy (taken at 5 p.m. after having eaten normally all day) and failed it with my second (having a plain waffle 3 hours before the test). If you can schedule it, take it first thing in the morning and don't eat beforehand.

Re: question about the 1 hour glucose test

I took it 1st thing in the AM and was told to eat breakfast, just nothing sweet and preferably protein. I had a scrambled egg and cheese sandwich and passed. Good luck Chat Icon

I had mine at 6pm. I ate normally all day, but not after about 1pm. I passed with no problem.

Re: question about the 1 hour glucose test

I agree, every dr seems to say something different.

I had to fast from 10pm the night before and then I went first thing in the morning for the 1 hr test - and I passed.

Re: question about the 1 hour glucose test

I just did mine on Friday, I didn't have to fast (although after you drink the drink you can't eat anything) and I had it done at 3:30pm. I didn't get a call yesterday, so I guess I passed!

As other posters have said, every doc tells you something different. Mine told me that she prefers I eat before I take the 1hr, I did and failed. I fasted for the 3 hr because I was told to do so and passed.
Good luck to you!

Re: question about the 1 hour glucose test

I have mine in a few weeks. I wasn't told to fast - just not eat or drink anything once I take the drink (an hour prior).

My appt is at 4pm, so I'll probably just cut out my afternoon candy snack that day Chat Icon

Re: question about the 1 hour glucose test

I just called my doctors office - my test is tomorrow. They said not to eat anything after you started to drink the drink. And she also said to stay away from anything sweet for breakfast or lunch.
She said a bagel for breakfast is fine and a sandwich for lunch is fine
