UGH! work vent!!
ugh! ok... so i'm a speech teacher at a public school and its SUCH a pain to schedule these kids! during the first week of school, i talked to the teachers of the kids on my caseload to find a time that works... everythings going ok- THEN comes back to school night ( tonight) and i get parents complaining that they don't want their kid missing this class or that class, as a law they can't miss their specials ( music, art, etc) they have an hour a day for lunch/recess- when the heck am i supposed to take these kids?!?! and the funny thing is, most of these kids come for one half hour a week.. our of the whole school week, its not that much! GRRR!!! i just don't understand what the big deal is! just annoyed tonight and had to vent

Re: UGH! work vent!!
I would think speech was a lot more important than ANY other class they might have. It's the one thing they use everyday.

Re: UGH! work vent!!
ya think?!?! maybe i'm biased, but if it was my kid, i would be like " sure, a half hour a week can't hurt them- it can only help them" the parents also don't realize that they need to practice the kids speech with them at home, too! spending a half hour a week with me isn't gonna magicaly make them better! its just annoying and i feel like i'm going to work everyday but can't make a difference with these kids

Re: UGH! work vent!!
i am not a parent yet, but if i was I would most definitely prioritize speech over something else if my child needed it...also please dont ever think you do not make a difference because you do..I am also in a profession that sometimes makes me feel that way, but you have to know that there are times you do and you dont know it and there are times you do know that you have made a difference... unfortunately sometimes the times that you do know about seem rare..you do a wonderful job!!!

I totally feel your pain. I am an occupational therapist in the public school district and I am having the hardest time schedualling children. I have gone back and forth to one school 6 times!!!!!6 times just to schedual kids!!!!!!!!! I am currently in 4 schools soon to be 5 schools and no one even tries to understand. I dont understand what they think can happen when you cant pull them out of specials, lunch, recess, esl, resource room ect...... it is the most fustrating time. I have been trying to schedual some kids for 2 weeks and then the parents call to complain I just dont understand either!!!!!! I COMPLETELY FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!

Like I said before, I feel the same way. And it is the parents that do nothing that compain the most. I am doing my best to do everything with your child but you need to work with me to help your child. My 30 minutes once or twice a week is not going to fix them. It is your job to work with your child every day of the week with the homework and exercises that I recommend that will help your child. And what is the worst, is the parents that dont do anything all year and at the year end final review complain the most that thier children have not made "enough" improvements!!!!
sorry to vent but it has been a bad few weeks!!!!
