OK Here's our sleep problems

Getting Miranda to sleep is no problem whatsoever 95% of the time. I can get her in the "mood" and put her down awake and she falls asleep on her own fine. Naps go well as well most of the time, sometimes they require a little more work but nothing too outrageous.

Sooooo here's our problem. M goes down at 7pm and begins waking up about every 2 hours at 9pm. We run up and give her the pacifier and she's fine. I go to bed around 10 and give her a bottle because without it she would only be getting 22-24oz a day in. BUT after that she keeps waking up and I am dying here. I don't know what's going on. I've put her down without the pacifier and she does OK for a while then wakes up looking for it. She's still swaddled so she can't find it on her own and even when she gets a hand free she doesn't find it.

I can't do CIO out. I've tried. I just can't do it. Hearing my baby cry is the most traumatic thing ever to me. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or ideas why she's waking up?

Last night we put her in her snuggle nest around midnight and ignored her and she stayed awake until 2:30 kicking and talking. I finally bounced her to sleep at 3 and she was up again at 5:30 (typical waking time) so I fed her. She finally went back down about 2 hours ater for 30 min.

She's not getting enough sleep but she'd not cranky or fussy either. Do I just have a non sleeping child?

When she starts waking up every couple of hours, is she crying? If not, and she's just talking and kicking her legs, why not let her entertain herself? I did this last night when Alex woke up at 5am... she babbled for a little while and then fell back asleep on her own.

You know our story - for months Alex was waking every 2 hours. We used CIO, but that's only because Alex takes to it so well and hardly fusses. The key is that she's probably waking every couple of hours out of *habit*, and nothing else. Unfortunately, I can't think of any non-CIO ways to break her of the habit!

why not break the pacifier habit? Take it away - cold turkey - I bet she wont miss it and she will sleep better!!

How old is Miranda now? Depending on her age,you can make the last feeding cereal & a little milk to wash it down..that way she's full & content.
My son did the same thing til about 5 months,after this- he'd sleep the whole night through.

Ugggh. I wish I could let her cry but I am just not ready for that. I lasted 2 minutes the other night.

Joseph does the same thing...every night is different. Sometimes every 2 hours and sometimes I get a nice 5 hr and 4 hr stretch. But he's always hungry. *I* think it's because he's not eating enough BM/formula during the day and those nighttime feedings make up for it. I've asked the dr about it and he has said I could just have a hungry baby and that's when he prefers to eat. Like you, I can't do CIO -it just doesn't work. He eats and falls RIGHT back asleep so I really can't complain... I think it'll break as they get older...

Very very hard. yesterday I was so tired I thought I was going to fall asleep while driving. I have the same problems with you girls. However last night he went 5 hours.

I don't understand my son during the day he will go 7-8 hours without food and then at night he can only do 5.

I try to feed him more but he refuses!!! He seals those little lips of his. Every day is a suprise I lwant to cry when I hear other babies are on a schedule.

My mom and aunt try to give me suggestions but after watching him they also agree. He has a mind of his own and does whatever he wants when he wants.

ETA-CIO is not an option. He screams while I am making his bottle as if he is in agony. We also have a crazy neighbor that lives upstairs. She bangs on the floor when I let him cry.

I can't nap during the day at all. Around 3-4:00 it hits me hard and I need to sleep SO bad but he just won't then. But I do go to bed for the night the minute he does. Friends and family think I'm crazy that my day ends at 7:30/8 but it's the only way I can cope! Do you notice she sleeps better if you give her a bath before bed? Joseph does - I'm almost to the point of bathing him every single night!

Is she starting to cut teeth? Sarah seems pretty pain sensitive, she always wakes up at least once a night if she has a tooth coming in. No fun, each one can take a week to come in. Then we get a few days reprieve before it seems like the next one starts.

Also, we have a white noise machine going in her room. We are on a corner and the side of our house is on a fairly busy street that's a main thoroughfare into our development. So fire trucks, delivery trucks, etc. come by at all hours of the day and night. The white noise machine seems to block all that extra noise, so she is able to sleep through it.

Beth - what if you just put her in the water but don't wash? That's what I might do...

I have one...I got it from my sister. I think she bought it from Sharper Image???? I love the thing.....not sure if it helps but I'm afraid Not to use it.

Well, last night was a disaster w/ no bath. So - tonight he's scheduled for one anyway (every other night) - if he sleeps good then we're off to every night bath Let me know how it goes for you!
