OMG I just walked out of my MIL's house
Anyone who knows me know that this is not my typical behavior. MIL's boyfriend is an ignorant jerk. In the past, I have just sat and listened to various tirades (anti-Semitict things, racists things, and once, that the Holocaust never happens -- yes, you read that right). Tonight, he started going off on ALL immigrants and said every last one should be sent home, legal or illegal. My entire family on my mother's side, including my mother, are immigrants. I said, "I'm sorry, I have to go, I don't need this" and walked out, with DH behind me. I feel bad, I sent my MIL a quick apology e-mail since it was not her, but my blood was BOILING!

I don't blame you one bit. You can only take so much and I give you credit for dealing with it for as long as you have, I have no tolerance for ignorance like that. Sorry you had a crappy night.

Wow Daniela, I'm so sorry you had to deal with this. Knowing you, I know it had to really be a lot for him to get under your skin. I'm surprised your MIL puts up with it.

So am I, to be honest, and it has been years. I feel badly because we had a nice dinner with them in honor of our anniversary but it was HIM that ruined it not me.
I am actually shaking right now because I NEVER behave like that and I cannot believe I did it, even though I do not think I was wrong.
Ok, I need to breathe then go and have fun with my hubby of almost 1 year.

What an ignorant jerk!! You were right and he had no right to be auch an A$$ when it was a dinner to celebrate YOUR anniversary
BTW: Unless he's 100% Native American blood, WE are all descendents of immigrants.
He seems to be from MARS which would definitely make him an alien immigrant

I'm really proud of you for walking out. It takes a strong person to take a stand against remarks like that, particularly when it's a relative making them.
While I truly hope he rethinks what he said & apologizes to you, I'd say it's unlikely. People like that never learn & rarely see the error of their ways.
