Bottle heating question...

Inspired by a post on the pregnancy board, how do you heat your bottles? Am I the only one who microwaves them?? Initially, I was heating them in water in a pot, but my friends and sister, and mom all did the microwave thing, so now I heat it for 10 seconds and shake it very well. Will anyone admit to this or am I going right to hell all alone?!

I've never heated her bottles. She gets them straight out of the fridge or room temp. The doctor told me it's fine, although MIL still thinks this is why she's lactose intolerant.

I wanted to do that but my DH forbid me!!!! I don't see why it has to be heated! Is there a specific reason?

My doctor said that people feel better giving them warm bottles, but there is absolutely no medical or nutritional reason to heat them up. I use formula, not sure if it's different for breast milk.

Re: Bottle heating question...

Jacob gets his bottles straight from the fridge also..

He has had no problems and i know that it is fine to do.

At least when we go out he drinks it warm or cold so i never have a problem with him not taking a bottle if he used to only warm bottles...

Re: Bottle heating question...

Heating in the microwave is actually a no-no. It can destroy bm properties and when using either formula or bm it can cause hot spots. I personally never did it.

Molly only needed her bottles heated during the first 6 weeks. After that she got her bm right out of the frig or freshly pumped. It KILLED my mom, stepmother and MIL to watch me grab a bottle out of the frig and give it to Molly but I didn't care. Molly drank it like that and it was better for us since I didn't have to worry about wasting BM due to it being heated.

Re: Bottle heating question...

I use to heat up a cup of water in the micro for about 30 seconds and then put the bottle in it for about a minute. I also used the Drop Ins bottles so heating up went a lot faster.

I've used the microwave, then I shake it up for about 30 secs and it's done. On my microwave, it's 40 secs for 7 oz.

I do the same....I started off with heating it in hot water....but I eventually broke down and started using the micro.

Ryan also gets cold bottles while we are out..
