IUI question - do you have to go to the doctor every day?

I spoke to the nurse practitioner today and she said I have to take a class to learn how to inject myself and how the IUI process works...fine. But I had a lot of other questions and she kept saying "you'll learn at the class" but she indicated that during CD1 and the day of the IUI, I'd have to come in EVERY morning to sign up, then wait to be called in the afternoon, in order to be monitored, have blood work, get ultrasounds, etc.

for those of you that did this - I am so confused - how does this work exactly? do I need to take 2 weeks off work to do an IUI?

Alexa, you go to Cornell, which is notarious for the best monitoring.

The monitoring is done early morning and it shouldn't take long. They will probably have you come in more often as you near your Ovulation. (cd 10-O).

Most clinics, don't have a person come in much at all for IUI monitoring.

I don't know..i start injections today and go for my first u/s and blood work on SUnday...

If you are doing an IUI with injectibles they will monitor you more closely (does that sound gramatically correct?).

Each dr is different, but in the beginning you will probably go every few days until you get closer to ovulation, then they will probably monitor you every day so they don't miss your "O".

ETA- thats right, you go to Cornell. You'll probably have to come in when you start, and then again a couple of days later to see how your E2 is rising. Then you'll probably have a few days off until you get closer to ovulation...

No, you dont need to go everyday, sounds like a scam to me.

At my old clinic I would go on CD 3, then CD 8-10, then CD 13 0r !$ and then about every other day till O.

I think the minimum time was 2 x's and most was 5-6.

At the new clinic , they dont believe in the bloodwork as much as sonos , and I had my last IUI with a CD 2 appointment, and a CD 10 appointment and then IUI ....

Im sorry but thats just crazy to go every day?

ETA- my RE said when I start injects next month it would be 1 extra visit a cd 2 or 3, a cd 10 , and a cd 12.

BTW, I think you misunderstood...I go to Cornell and don't even have to go in everyday for IVF, at least not in the beginning.

I spoke to Diana Adams at Cornell - but it is possible that I misunderstood because she kept saying, "you'll find out at the class" - meanwhile I just wanted an idea of what I was in for because it takes 45 minutes to get there and back from my office, plus the time I am there, and it is very hard for me to leave work so I wanted time to plan my excuses!

if I can go in the morning around 8am then great, I just didn't want to have to go BACK in the afternoons as well so when she said that you "sign up" in the morning then they "call you back" in the afternoon, I was just confused

Monitoring is from 7am to 8:30ish am. It can take anywhere form 15 minutes to up to 2 hours depending what you need done, and how crowded it is.

You should get a call between 4pm-7pm your your med instructions and telling you what day to come back in and what for (blodd, u/s, or both).
