Anyone here about a fence that keeps dogs in the yard?

I have a border collie who loves to get out and run! Its in his nature. We always have to go get him and bring him back. Chat Icon Chat Icon
But I hear there's this imaginary fence that keeps the dog in the yard...anyone have it or know if it works?

you can get an invisible "fence" installed...i think there is something that gets planted in the ground and the dog may have to wear a special collar, i think it gives them a slight shock if they go near the fence...i'm not too sure though...

We got one when I lived with my sister....her not-too-bright and very-high-pain-threshold golden ignored it and would get zapped and keep going --- her other dog is schizo and would refuse to leave the house after getting zapped ONCE. My lab was pretty easy to train - but you have to be very consistent with the training. IMO, a regular fence is much better....

I know a few people who have the Invisible Fence or Fido's Fence. They do seem to work, but they do shock the dog. Some dogs take a little longer to get used to it and as Kara said, you have to be consistent with training.
Good luck!

Our neighbors have an invisible fence and the dog still wanders the neighborhood (peeing on my front porch and pooping on my front lawn Chat Icon ). He gets shocked on the way in and out of his driveway and doesn't seem to care.

I think my dog would be the one to get shocked and just carry on and run around the neighborhood. Chat Icon

Then get a regular fence... best bet IMO...

Oh I forgot to add -- other dogs can come onto your property if you have the invisible fence - it doesn't affect them. My nephew's dog is trained but when another dog comes around, they will come onto his property and run around with his dog - or attack it -- or whatever. And sometimes his dog will get so wound up she will go through the fence anyway.

I have a border collie too. My MIL has the invisible fence and my dog could careless about getting shocked. She is well aware of it but thinks running is a much better option. At my house, I have a 6' fence and that keeps her in.
