Swollen Feet - beyond HUGE - worried

My feet were sort of swollen this morning. I couldnt wear my sneakers. My ankels have been huge for a while.

This afternoon my feet were a little more swollen... but tonight...OMG they are HUGE...they look like Flintstone feet!! Rectangular shaped blocks.

I'm kind of scared and dont know what to do.

I;ve had them elevated for a while - but its only getting worse. What do I do?

I've also been feeling sick to my stomach.

I'd call your dr. IT could just be the baby sitting on your artery, but still, just to make sure, I'd call the dr.Chat Icon

Kathy I had this during my pregnancy to the point where I actually started splitting the seams of my shoes. Have you tried soaking them. My DH had bought me a massaging foot tub that I could fill with water. Also drink lots of water. If the swelling is less by morning I would call the dr but it is very normal to be much more swollen at night especially after a busy day.

Re: Swollen Feet - beyond HUGE - worried

Kathi - I would call your doctor. Not to worry you but the sudden swelling and upset stomach could be an indication of preeclampsia, or it could be nothing.

"Preeclampsia can also come on suddenly between prenatal appointments, so it's important to be aware of the possible symptoms. Call your midwife or doctor right away if you notice swelling in your face or puffiness around your eyes, more than slight swelling of your hands, or excessive or sudden swelling of your feet or ankles. This is caused by water retention that can also lead to a rapid weight gain — so also let your caregiver know if you gain more than 4 pounds in a week. (Be aware, though, that not all women with preeclampsia have swelling.) With more severe preeclampsia you may have other symptoms as well, including:

• A severe or persistent headache

• Vision changes, including double vision, blurriness, seeing spots or flashing lights, light sensitivity, or temporary loss of vision

• Intense pain or tenderness in your upper abdomen

• Nausea or vomiting"

Re: Swollen Feet - beyond HUGE - worried

I was just tested for preeclampsia on MOnday becasue they were worried about it. Im keeping my feet elevated and Im def going to call the doctor tonight if it gets worse or in the morning.

My feet are really itchy too I guess thats because of the swelling, right?

Did you call your doctor?

Yes itching could be from swelling (same as your belly itching). The thing is your ankles shouldn't be swelling so suddenly or getting worse if they're up.

If you ask me this all points towards an induction for next week..

Sounds like your ready..... My feet are really swollen too, so I have been wearing flip flops, thankfully the weather got warm just in time.

I woudl place a call to your doctor, it should hurt.... Keep drinking water and keep your feel elevated. A foot massage couldn't hurt either Chat Icon

I had the same thing and then it went up to my knees at the end and my hands looked like sausage linksChat Icon

I was fine and it went away a few days after birth. If you are concerned call your OBGYNChat Icon

Good morning!
I woke up this morning with almost normal sized feet and legs! Hands too! I'm so relieved. At least I know its normal swelling. DH and I went for breakfast and grocery shopping and Im going to try and keep my feet up today as much as I can, its just so nice out! I want to be outside.

Oh I wish....nothing I do seems to get the swelling down....if it happens again water, water, water is the key and keep them elevated!
