Sticky friend situation

A very close friend of mine had a baby 2 weeks after me. I'm so happy that he has a close friend and always hoped they'd grow up to be best friends. Lately though, MY friend is getting a little odd. She absolutely never compliments him or says he's cute or anything along those lines...she never gets excited over a milestone or something new he's done. I always gush over hers. When we started the modeling thing she went into the city a week later, without telling me, and met w/ agencies for her baby. Now my DH wasn't thrilled w/ the whole modeling thing and us going into the city alone but after that he said forget it because she was turning it into a competition. I WANT to stay close w/ her for the kids sake - but she's making it difficult... and no, I haven't said a thing to her about it. What to do? Chat Icon

Re: Sticky friend situation

Wow...your friend is in competition with you. That's very sad. Chat IconMaybe your son is doing things hers isn't and she's just reacting in a jealous manner. It's so unnecessary...you both are friends and want the best for your little ones. It's unfortunate that she's feeling this way...maybe she'll grow out of this phase.Chat Icon

Re: Sticky friend situation

Should I say something or just let it go? I'm always saying he's cute or whatever to pics she sends or when I see him and she doesn't. Actually her last comment to a pic was Wow - his cheeks just keep getting bigger.Chat Icon Should I just keep going on being myself or should I stop being nice?

Re: Sticky friend situation

Why dont you just flat out ask her what the issue is??

It might be simple, maybe something you might be overlooking, or something she misunderstood, and easily solved...

Im very outgoing...so for me- Nicely I would state how Im feeling and try and see what the problem is, and fix it...

After having a talk, if the friend was just being a total beyotch still... I might reexamine our friendship!

Re: Sticky friend situation

what about if you suggest a gtg with just the two of you? no kiddies or hubbies. just a chance maybe for the two of you to 'reconnect'??

I would let it go & just drift apart until she starts making more of an effort. While you want to be friends for the sake of the kids, your son doesn't need to subjected to a mom who can't (in the simplest terms) play nice.

Re: Sticky friend situation

I don't know...I think I wouldn't call her and let her make the effort. If she wonders why you haven't called, then tell her how you've felt lately. Maybe she just can't give a compliment...

I agree with this. Sometimes it's just not worth it.

Re: Sticky friend situation

maybe it kills her to give a compliment because she is insecure with herself and her child- that is very sad.
