Turning half bath to full bath?

How hard is it to turn a .5 bath into a full bath by adding a shower? There is certainly enough room for a stand up shower in the bathroom.
Has anyone done this? How much does it cost approximately?

We did this...all ourselves - definitely cut back on the cost!! We did everything to Expanding the wall, Sheatrock, tiling (Floor and Shower), moving the toliet, moving the sink, plumbing and piping. plus of course painting. To take a guest I would say for probably around $3000.00.

Not that bad!!!

thanks for the reply! FH and I are not very handy, but we can learn! Not sure if we can do the plumbing ourselves though... but it's good that you gave an estimate without labor cost.

I was quoted $10,000 by 2 different contractors to do this. It was to expand and redo the bathroom, but it should give you an idea. They both said the bulk of the expense is in extending the plumbing.

Move wall out, extending plumbing, put in shower stall, remove and re-tile floor, new sheetrock on all walls and ceiling, and new toilet and sink.

We wouldn't need to expand the bathroom, there is enough room in there, the huge vanity (ugly one at that) is taking up half of the bathroom, I am thinking to put in a pedestal one, that will free up a lot of room for the shower, they will need to dig up the ground for the plumbing, also the wall to add the shower head I guess and re-tile...

thanks for the reply!

We just added a full bath into our basement and it wasn't that expensive at all. We had nothing down there so the plumber had to put everything in. I think we paid $4,500 for everything.
