Cat people, some questions....

I have had cats my whole life, and since we've been married, we've had two new kitties, Lucien and Fellini. I've tried EVERYTHING to keep these cats off of my counters and table, but they are just so persistent. I've tried a water gun and I've tried a can of pennies to shake when they are up there, but neither of them get bothered by it.
What do you do to keep your kitties off of the counters?

Also, when did you start adult food with your cats? Mine are about 10 months old and I feel like they look like cats, so shouldn't I be feeding them cat food now? I'm just afraid of them getting fat and unhealthy like all of my mothers cats!

Question number one: double stick tape. You can buythis in any hardware store or a Loews.

Only use the double stick tape when you are home.

Question number 2- My vet told us to start giving them adult food at the age of one. When I volunteered in the shelter, the vet said between 12 months too. But, I would double check with your vet to make sure.

Re: Cat people, some questions....

good suggestion!! mine keeps trying to get on top of the TV, to get to the to of the armworir (spelling was butchered there...) I think i'll try the tape! (ours are only 4 months old! so we're trying to stop habbits before they form!)

The can with pennies works on One, but not the other!

One of my cats goes on the counter, but only the non food part by the backdoor. The other one is simply too fat to clear her own arse, let alone jump onto the counter! When Cornelius jumps on the couner I yell and scream at him, that seems to work (if you count him still jumping on the counters as working)

Re: Cat people, some questions....

I have to try the tape thing too.

We've used a water gun too and he runs away when he sees it. It's funny cuz when DH and I eat dinner in the kitchen he'll hang around us and he looks up at the counter and will get that look that says he's about to jump up and DH will catch that and says "no, don't even think about jumping up there" So Ralphie will look at DH then look back up at the counter and back at DH as if to say "but I want to go up there" and DH will be like "I said don't go up there" and then he'll just walk away, but he doesn't always listen to DH like that. If he jumps up anyways DH will yell at him but then again he really doesn't have to yell, all ralphie has to see is DH get up and he takes off...

By the way what do you ladies mean by adult food? Adult cat food?
