Did you know that there is grant money available at certain IVF clinics in NY state?
I just found this out! Why didn't anyone tell me about this? Here is the information:
The NYS Infertility Demonstration program provides IVF and GIFT services to privately insured individuals whose insurance coverage for these procedures is exhausted or inadequate, and who meet certain criteria, such as having exhausted lower level infertility services, are residents of NYS, and meet certain age and health criteria. The participating providers will make the determination about which patients qualify for the program.
There are currently 10 providers participating in this program, and the contracts have been extended through July of 2005. I am attaching below a list of all of the providers who are currently participating in this program.
(See attached file: Infertility Demonstration Programs Web Posting List.doc)
Providers will give you the forms they wish to be filled out -- each has their own forms. If they are no longer accepting patients, you may wish to request to be placed on a waiting list, to be called when additional funds become available.
The process works as follows: potentially eligible individuals contact participating providers, who will screen them for eligibility for the NYS Infertility Demonstration Program, and enroll them. Services will be paid by New York State, through the providers, with the exception of any insurance reimbursement available, and a cost sharing amount that the patients will be required to pay. This cost sharing amount varies by the patient's household income and the cost of the procedures, but cannot exceed ten percent of the patient's gross household income in any one year.
I hope this information is helpful. Best of luck.
Sincerely,
Barbara A. Brustman Director

I just called some of the places today and they are still accepting new patients. I do think though that you can't have tried IVF already. The program was extended from what the woman explained to me on the phone this morning!
Good Luck! I am hoping to get in myself since my insurance doesn't pay anything!
